Does This Bread Pudding Make me Look Fat? A Dizneydawn Food Report Sequel! 11/15 post

Glad to see you are back!

Just an FYI... maybe you need to add a little alert to some posts... like this post may make you tinkle a little :lmao:

I can't wait to get home to actually see the pictures. Brent(much to my chagrin) has told me he wants to eat at MM in February. I ate there once and it wasn't very good, then after reading all the reviews I am seriously dreading it! Oh well, I guess it's his vacation, too...

I am in too.. Can't wait to hear.. I will have already made my ressies by the time you are finishing up on your trip.. But, I can't wait to hear.. Congrats on the wedding.. your family is gorgeous!
Thanks for the nice words and I hope to see you hear reading and telling me about your resies!!!

:worship::worship::worship: That was the GREATSEST.OPENING.EVER!! My addiction to Dis started with you so its only fitting I delurk & hop aboard. Congratulations on getting married!!:flower3:

I'm hear! No wait . . . let's try that again. I'm here!!

Can't wait to hear your reviews! I read the last dining report and the last trip report. I can't remember if I posted though. So I may be one of those lurkers you were talking about!
So glad to see you here and I need to go finish the last TR and Food report! So much to do and so little time!
Woo Hoo! I'm here and only 3 pages late! I can't wait to here all about it (and maybe make a surprise appearance if it doesn't interfere with "alone time".)
So sad we did not meet up. Ya know that means we need a do-over ya know!!! :cool1: Darn cell phones!

Old face here - checking in!!! :surfweb:
Old and missed face. :lovestruc
I'm Here!
Me too!
Happy Honeymooning you two!!! :thumbsup2
Thanks for thinking of us.
YEAH!! More DizneyDawn!!

I'm not going to tell you that I had to officially "search" for you, cause that would make me seem like a stalker, but I'll just say that I'm glad I found your latest & grreatest TR!!

Bring on the food!!
So glad you found me. I wish I could just post here a combined food and TR but I am afraid I would get in trouble but it would make my life so much easier to just post in one place!!!
Ok, I'm 3 pages late but I'm here! I will blame my own WDW trip at the beginning of the month and the subsequent family fall out for my absence. Note: Never mix family and DVC points and money.

Jill in CO
Does not sound good. Hope things are getting resolved!!
Oh this is going to be fun!:cool1: I am so in!

Sue
Hi Sue!!!! You are at the perfect time to start reading!!
Yay! Dawn is back. My dog is looking at me funny (well more than usual!) as I was literally laughing out loud at the whole ex-governor saga. I think I like your sister! ;)

Can't wait to read more!

Jill in CO
Laura is going in December with us so you can get more of her antics!
Bread pudding is made by soaking pieces of bread in a mixture of milk, sugar and eggs. It's a great dish to make with leftover, stale bread that's otherwise unusable. How to make bread pudding will show you how.
Thanks for all the info and welcome!!
Dawn, great to see you back, love your reports. And I plead for a trip report as well, pretty please, I was disappointed you abandoned your last one.
I promise eventually I will finish that one too!
At any rate, looking forward to any reports from you, thanks!

That is quite a start to the trip!

We have never been to Mama Melrose, but maybe we will have to give it a go!
The Vodka Penne was great last march!!
Read your post last night then my computer froze up on me so I came back today to reply. Loved the start of your report, hilarious as always! Sounds like you had a good experience at Mama Melrose for the most part, too bad about your steak being wrong. We went there once on our trip in 2010 and liked it, I would go back again. My brother loves it there. Can't wait to hear more.
I will go again for sure. Thanks for reading along!
Glad to see you are back!

Just an FYI... maybe you need to add a little alert to some posts... like this post may make you tinkle a little :lmao:
I thought this went without saying!!
I can't wait to get home to actually see the pictures. Brent(much to my chagrin) has told me he wants to eat at MM in February. I ate there once and it wasn't very good, then after reading all the reviews I am seriously dreading it! Oh well, I guess it's his vacation, too...
It is? Don't let him know that or he will figure out he has power!!!

Just a small update...while we were gone, my smallest dog, somehow broke her foot and a certain individual that will remain nameless here, did not seek vet attention for three days for her because he thought it would get better and it was just a sprain. This same nimrod also fired the housesitter I hired because he thought it would be fine to live at my house for two weeks, eat food I had bought and prepared for them while I was gone and use my utilities instead of taking our son to his house and actually having to be a prepared parent there.

*Originally this person was supposed to be out of town so hence I hired someone to stay with Baylor, take care of dogs and house sit.

So a stress free trip it was not being 24 hours from home and trying to remain calm as I find out one dissaster after another, arrange vet appointments and such. Anyway, the poor dog has this massive cast on her front paw and needs to see the vet every week and a half for new casts to be put on. She cannot walk because they do not want pressure on the break and my unpaid job is her potty hauler - outside and back in every two hours. A 3 1/2 pound dog cannot hold it long and otherwise she has to be held for attention or be in her kennell 24/7.

Here she is before her injury:

Dixie1.jpg

Can you tell why I love her so much??

dixie3.jpg

Dixie2.jpg

Her little bumble bee Halloween costume she never ended up wearing cause of the darn cast! The thing is so heavy she weighs almost 7 pounds with it on!!

The good busy part of the past few weeks has been work and although I am happy, it sure takes a ton of time. Compounded by still writing and gathering info for the attorneys for Baylor, I felt I would do a poor job of writing and so last night and yesterday, I spent about 3 hours typing out the first real post! Hope to now start with the food ones at least a few a week since those should be a bit easier to hammer out!

Thanks for all your patience guys!!!! :worship:

:lmao::rotfl2: at your post and the airport saga!! I totally get it! That "terminal 1" junk...Sheesh!
We enjoyed MM when we ate there a couple years ago. I'm glad that you at least had a server who was trying to help. Plus the nice CM at OKW. It really does make a difference how they treat you when there's a problem.
Yes, I just added my tickers yesterday. We are taking the girls to Europe and going during (and before) spring break. I hope to do a PTR soon. Then we are using our DVC points at AKL in October for F&W and MNSSHP!! Never done those before so I'm super excited! We just bought a small OKW contract with some banked points, so we hope to spend a night or two there as well.

Poor Kizzy!!! She's so dang cute! I love the bee costume!:rotfl:

Poor puppy! I feel so bad for her...that costume is super cute!

My parents LOVED Mama Melrose when I took them there last year. Trying to remember what they had, but it definately was not that steak!
I hate rushing to places.....at least you had some nice CMs try to make it ok for you.
Poor puppy!!! I hope he improves!
Must catch up soon!

Just found your report and am so glad I did. Really enjoying reading so far, you definately have quite a gift for writing and humor. Hope you are back at it soon. So sorry for that poor puppy! She is precious

I am here with two huge improvements!

One - Kidney stones are gone and I am functioning with a full brain, not on pain killers!!! Maybe  that actually is not a good thing because why use a full brain when a half brain will do? :lmao:

In all seriousness - I had been assuming two weeks ago that my back was sore because of the folding chair and stupid desk I sit at which is not functional or approved of by any chiropractor! Then the day after my last post, knew something more than that was wrong and was elated to hear I did not have a kidney infection. Then not so much when the doc said I had several stones and plan on not being a happy camper for a few days plus!

Totally fine now but there was no way I was sitting at this desk for any amount of adoration or money. (Who am I kidding...for a few million I would have considered it but Donald Trump was not missing me here so tough bump! :rotfl2:)

Second huge improvement is my old trusty desktop decided she had her last breaths and on top of the fan running non stop on the tower which is enough to drive anyone batty, every time I posted anything, wrote anything on even an e-mail, it would cycle and cycle and sit and sit and there was no hope in uploading pics so I was not having any luck writing here until last night. It was then that Dan, talked with the internet people we have service through and they advised him on dumping and consolidating a few things on here that took almost 3 hours to complete but...voila! I can type and write and post and the only thing that still stinks is that stupid fan running.

I had Thanksgiving here and my sister, when Baylor was on the computer in my office, asked who was using a hair dryer!!! :rotfl: I am thinking of using cotton balls in my ears until I purchase my new laptop with tax money!!!

Anywho - Here sis a few vacation tips and updates:

We are two weeks away from our December trip with my sister. We are staying off site now after number crunching and re-analyzing the stay at FW Cabins with 6 adults. I found a site through a friend who lives in Naples and travels to WDW often called hotels.com. They offer discounted rates on resorts, villas and hotels and as the time gets closer, some locations finally offer up non booked rooms cheap and others will keep reducing their rates. Swan/Dolphin just opened up for $140 a night (40% savings) for the dates of our trip but since we have 6 people, we would still need two rooms.

Many places in Kissimmee area or surrounding WDW, charge these $8-$15 per night resort fees which I think is bunk. We found a time share location that is ranked high by others on Trip Advisor and other review sites for $88 per night (no resort fees) if I paid in advance and agreed not to have a refund if I cancelled. The villa has all new granite countertops/kitchen upgrade, just 3 miles from Disney, a master suite with king bed, whirlpool tub and double size shower! I will let you all know how the place is when we get back but it gives us double the room and solved the issue I was having with free dining in exchange for the two day tickets we would have needed to buy to get free dining, which we did not need.

It has basketball courts, tennis courts, shuffle board a small mini golf course for free to use for guests. A huge walking path around a lake and several pools and hot tubs also will be nice to use. We lose out on the EMH but other than that, there was no negatives as we were renting a vehicle anyway. Traveling with 6 adults makes it really expensive to stay at WDW and as much as I love the thought of FT. Wilderness cabins, I think it might have ended up causing some fights with one bathroom, Dan at 6'6 stuck in a full size bed and the only other option was to get two hotel rooms or a villa through DVC and that was spendy as well.

This was also a ton cheaper than anything we found on VRBO as well when you calculated cleaning fees and taxes into whatever people were charging for, plus many only had one bathroom for a condo if it was within a decent price range.

We will eat out once a day plus snacks but the full kitchen will make late night eating and breakfasts more achievable than any hotel room would have allowed us to do!

We also are flying :yay: with the saved money but here is a tip that I just discovered. When you book your airfare...look at airports a few hours away and you might cut your flights down in price by a ton.

We are driving to Des Moines (4 hours away) because the flights were under $200 round trip, with a connecting in Minneapolis. If I booked a direct from Minneapolis to MCO, the same flight was almost $330! So on the way back, most of us will just get off in Minneapolis and not take the connecting to Des Moines and Dan will fly the last leg alone and pick up the car to drive home. How stupid is that though? Why the heck is a direct flight $130 more expensive when there is no connecting fees and less fuel etc.? They said we had to get on in Des Moines though for the trip down to MCO because if you do not show on your 1st part of the flight, they can cancel your seat and give it to someone else, otherwise I would just get on here in Minneapolis. Still working on how I can get around that if at all possible!

For 5 of us, we saved $650 booking it this way and the gas will cost about $80!

FYI: Treyner and Carsyn will be coming home next Wednesday and I am so excited to get our Christmas tree with all of them here to pick it out!

Okay...up next Crystal Palace Breakfast!!:woohoo:

Glad to hear that you're feeling better! Looking forward to hearing how your off-site stay goes. I've been considering that for our next trip (whenever that may be...)

I just found your post, read your intro, and...

I think I like you!! Thanks for the lunchtime reading and congrats on your recent wedding and honeymoon :goodvibes

I am so glad you are better!!
Sad that you are flying - no stop over in Atlanta - sniff sniff!!!

Glad you are feeling better :goodvibes

Cool for the December trip and finding a great place to stay!! We liked the cabins, but I really think you will like this place much better. Brent and I didn't really like the bed very much and the bathroom was kind of an issue with the 5 of us. And you've met us, it's not like the girls needed that much bathroom time(yet.... sigh.... teenage years are coming quick...)

I can't believe it's December already!!!

Glad that you are feeling better!

We stayed off site on our last trip. I thought I would hate it, but it was our first trip with a munchkin (My DS turned 2 during the trip, plus there were 5 adults) and it made mealtimes so much easier. It just made the most sense!

So happy you are feeling better!! I just got a new laptop and am so happy!!!

I think you are a great bargain hunter Dawn! We were doing similar things for our flights to London. It would have been cheaper to fly from Chicago to Mpls, then to London! But I wasn't willing to drive to Chicago!!

Okay, you can all kill me later but there IS an update on it's way and I have the most thrilling reason for my lack of post!

Are you ready?

Will you just DIE when I tell you?

Can you believe that sometimes something very lucky can come after a bout of bad luck?

Well if you are ready...then I will just show you what I have been up to while not writing here...or there...or anywhere...

Because.....

One of my very best friends since I was 14 happens to be a front house manager at a very posh and delicious boutique pizzeria in Minneapolis and she happened to mention some very popular TV show would be filming and before she finished typing...I was on the road and in the car!

Yes, some very big wigs in the culinary dialogue arena were going to be taping during three days! I was able to see the filming, be part of the "eaters" with Dan and Baylor as well as give my opinion to her as a foodie about the pizza, service and atmosphere. I also, after being at many restaurants who have had this show film there, gave her the advice that not only will she be swamped, as they had told her, but she needed to be ready to hang the celebrity photos up for customers to see and take pictures by, without blocking traffic!

So here is who was filming.... :3dglasses

Come on...you did not think I would make it that easy to see the pics do you? :snooty:

Okay...enough playing with your vulnerable emotions.... pirate:

For real...here it is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :worship:  :yay: :woohoo: :dance3: :cheer2:

How awesome was that???????

If you live in Minnesota and are near Minneapolis - please go see my dear friend Rachel at Pizza Lola!!! Kim (in the picture) is the owner and she brings her Korean roots into her passion of food and it shows.

Literally amazing service and any of the pizza's are great but here is what we had (Sorry but could not take many photos because they had lights all over the place and we were trying to be courteous of the film crew and flash bulb pics of the food would have been an issue! Instead I stole from the web!):

The Iowan $15
La Quercia Prosciutto, ricotta, mozzarella, roasted garlic & arugula

pizzeria-lola-the-tour.5852288.87.jpg

My fave!!! The garlic is roasted to the point of feeling like butter and that arugula is just the right nutty, earthy taste to bring out the savory of the prosciutto.

The Boise $14
Potato, gruyere, caramelized onion, olive oil & rosemary

This was Dan's fave and we added bacon it it as well per Rachel's recommendation. It was a sweeter pizza and very aromatic.

My Sha-Roni! $15
House red sauce, mozzarella, natural-casing pepperoni & house-made fennel sausage

pizza3.jpg

Baylor loved this and I have to say the pepperoni was probably the best flavored pepperoni I have ever had.

We also had olives for an app that were marinated and out of this world good!

296021120.jpg

For dessert - they bring out three chocolate chip cookies sprinkles with sea salt, fresh from the oven with a glass of cold milk.

713951d5-590c-3832-adf4-f56774d56d16_xl.jpg

We also sampled their home made vanilla bean soft serve, drizzled with extra-virgin olive oil & fleur de sel!!!

6cb23ca4-1453-38dc-9640-f422bdc0c3ad_xl.jpg

I don't know how they do it but the combinations are a trifecta to the palette! Baylor and Dan who are ice cream snobs thought it was a travesty until they took their first bite and rode the stairway to heaven until there was not one lick to be had from the dish!

We will be there next weekend and plan on trying a pizza with soft eggs cooked on it! All pizzas are 12 inches and wood fire cooked in a copper cooking oven.

It is amazing and a true dining experience! They have always had rave reviews and you too will not be disappointed!!

I don't think I've posted for awhile, but I've been lurking along on all your stuff and enjoying. Just wanted to pop on to say thanks for the recommendation on the pizza place. Haven't heard of it before, but it looks delicious, so we'll have to check it out sometime. Yum!

That is so freaking cool! I love Guy Fieri!!!! And so happy your friend's business will be put on the map.

Congrats to your friend. Much success to her. As for you, you have me at my desk cracking up. The passenger going to Vegas and the politian.....CLASSIC.:rotfl2:

Can't wait to read the rest.popcorn::

COOL!!! I will have to go there!!! I'm going to go look it up right now!

ETA - just looked it up on line. Looks great!! My co-worker says she lives near there and it looks really cute but she's never been. So I told her to go!
