Does this bother anyone else???

I think the criticism is valid, up to a point. The problem is that they leave the papers lying all over the place. On doors, halfway under doors, etc. At the front desk is the least of your worries. I would have to look but I don't think there's really anything there that would be of much use to anyone to use against you. So the issue is do you want to lose express checkout (or make it much more cumbersom) or make closing your bill an ordeal with proof of ID. Personally, I would be OK with either.

Mine have always been slid under the door, never left on the outside door handle.

My experience has been that resorts that have outside entrances (like OKW), they put it on the outside door. Resorts with inside hallways (like BWV), they slide it under.

I think they should swipe the room key to make sure it's the right person before they hand it out. If it was your FIL staying in the same room, they would still give it to him.

:o I would be upset (highly). It doesn't matter if they can't use it to charge. It is a matter of privacy. And it needs to be addressed. To the supervisor, So that it doesn't happen again.
This is a high class place. And I expect the best. Everyone makes mistakes after all we are human. But there is room for improvement, and we learn from our mistakes.

When we stayed at the Dolphin they just threw the bills on the floor in the hallway. As we walked down the hall to the elevator we couldn't help but notice what others were paying.

Thanks to the Dis and Mousesavers, we were the cheapskates at $129.

:teeth:

Not only a concern for privacy and fraud but how about a plain ole honest mistake. How many of us get confused about which room we are in? Or what if they keyed it in wrong? They should have at least verified the name on the reservation along with the room #.
MG-Glad you had a great trip. We will be home in 10 days. Never been to VWL in the cooler months, it always seems to be in the spring so we have changed our pattern, VWL in the fall, and BWV in the spring. I suspect the lodge will be very cozy, can't wait. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I don’t see any benefit in letting Disney track my spending habits. Disney gets a very accurate picture of DVC members spending and applies DVC discounts to the less popular restaurants and attractions.

Yes, it would bother me MG. And at the BCV recently, they asked for my room key before they gave me my check out. Maybe not a picture ID but at least they asked for something.

By the way - I didn't get a print out on the morning of check out and when I went to get one, I was told it's because I had link reservations (wait list for one night in the middle, so three linked) and she said a glitch in the system makes it so they option to print is "no" on a linked ressie.

So she said to stop by the desk anytime during the stay and have them set the option to "yes" anytime you have a linked ressie.

golfnut...I see that you only have 60+ posts here, but rest assured that Maistre G is not someone looking for things to complain about. In fact, I think he is a charter member of the VWL Chamber of Commerce! :p

The original question was: "does this bother anyone else?" I think it's fine if people post that it doesn't bother them a bit. I'm not as okay when people question the OP for even bringing something up.

Okay...getting off of my soap box now.

I have to agree with the whole privacy issue. I don't think anyone is going to charge anything on my room account based on what info is available on my accounting sheet. I just don't want people checking it out. That being said....when we stayed at the Polynesian last August, my dh had to check something on our account. He asked for a copy at the front desk and he was asked for ID. He showed his room key and that was it. About all I could ask for.

Granny,

what does having only 60+ posts....i am not allowed to post against somebody with more posts or a charter member...fine have fun on your board.. i am gone for good...his opinion is worth more than mine because he has more posts..

golfnut1264...the reason I brought up the number of your posts was that I thought that might be an indicator that you had not been around here long, and therefore had not seen Maistre Gracey's many posts that would allow you to see that he is not someone who just looks for things to complain about.

Sorry if my comment keeps you from the DIS Boards. I hope you come back and find them as good of a source of information and opinion as the rest of us do.

For those for whom privacy is the issue perhaps the main desk could be requested to hold the checkout bill at the main desk for release only to the person who made the reservation. Unfortunately if this request is made the DVC Member or guest would have to give up express checkout. The members who are not concerned about the privacy of the checkout bill could receive them on the doorknob or preferably under the door (not sure if the slip will fit under all doors).

You know, I thought someone had somehow used my login until I noticed your home. Small world.

Ours is always on the door handle... it must be too fat to fit under the door! :faint:

Nice to hear from you. I can now understand why some people choose a more unique screen name than we did.....oh well... have a good day.

I had this very same concern this past week, only it was not with a Disney Room statement. I was very upset when I left my opthamologist's office. For the past few months, I don't know if it is a Mass law, or a Federal law, but whenever I have a Doctor's appointment, I now need to read and SIGN their privacy statements. All well and good. But, I needed to get a copy of my eye records for an appointment with a specialist. He needs to know the history of my eye disease. I went in and asked for the records, and was given a realese form to fill out. I filled it out and signed it. They never asked me for ID. Well, they got my chart and realized the pages were not copied. So she asked if I could come back later. I came back the next day. Never asked me for ID, never checked to be sure I was telling the truth when I said I filled out a release the day before. NOW THAT is scary. JMHO.

I don't know if it is a Mass law, or a Federal law, but whenever I have a Doctor's appointment, I now need to read and SIGN their privacy statements.

It's called HIPPA - Health Information Protection and Privacy Act (or close to that) - and it's feredal. All health care is under the act now - even pharmacies. You have to sign the statement. Very restrictive for giving out info. Will become stricter over time and right now it's not very uniformly enforced.

My prior doc's office wouldn't fax anything, my new doc's office will.

The privacy act is good in the sense no one can legally share your private medical information with insurance companies that could potentially use it against you to deny you coverage.
The privacy act is ridiculous in the sense it causes totally unnecessary work in making medical offices get paperwork approvals to give another medical entity information that is needed to treat you. Lots of medical providers are handling it differently because some are more afraid than others of lawsuit.
It seems it is impossible to exercise common sense in our lawsuit crazy society.

As far as the express check-out goes, we've done this with every WDW resort we've stayed at (including DVC) and never had a (potential) problem until a July '02 stay at WL (not VWL). They put all the envelopes on the floor outside the doors---not under the door. I went to get mine, and saw two little kids having fun running up and down the hallway kicking the envelopes around ! Ughhh....now that had to be a nasty mixup for alot of folks :upsidedow
Not sure why the CM's didn't slip them under the door ? I believe they do fit because I'm thinking they did this during our '99 stay at WL ?
