Does this board make the wait better or worse?

That question crossed my mind as I looked across the toolbar button links across the top of my browser and saw the Disboards icon. Since the day I returned from my last trip in April, I have been checking this site multiple times a week. The problem is that my next trip is not until this August, about 15 months from the end of my previous trip.

Positives of me checking the site:
1) I get my Disney fix.
2) I get to feel like I am up on the latest DVC and Disney news.
3) I get to have a head start on planning my next trip.

Negatives of me checking the site:
1) Time seems to crawl because I tend to be hyper focused on my next trip.
2) Although it lets me keep up on the latest news, there really isn't all that much news to get. So, instead, I just get frustrated as I read about other people's trips.
3) Since my trip isn't for such a long time, odds are that I'll forget the little tips and hints that I read about.

So, as you can see, with three reasons in each category, I am stuck, lol. I guess I'll have to keep clicking on that button!

I am the same way. On the one hand, I feel like I am more "in the loop" by checking these boards. Hey, I found out initially about the new 2010 point chart through this board. On the other hand, this site and allears have me hooked and checking sometimes on a daily basis (if I am on a break from work since I am a teacher)...even checking menus so often, then telling myself I will wait a couple of months to check again so I can be more excited if a few restaurants changed the menus instead of one or none...only to find myself there the very next day or at the very least within a week!

It does make the time seem to go by slower sometimes. But then again, I sometimes feel I need my Disney fix. I also like to help other people out here on the boards as I have been helped out with my questions. So I answer some people's inquiries also.

The winter months can be boring. My best time is when I see someone asking a question about VB. I love to acquaint people with VB. Otherwise, I do my best to answer other types of questions... leave the resort experts to answer questions I can't. Some people get frustrated with questions that have been asked time and again, but I appreciate the new-comer's need for info. Some days I don't find any threads I'm interested in... and others there are multiple threads that interest me. Sometimes, I'll create a thread just to give people something to work with.

DIS will sometimes increase my anticipation of an upcoming trip, but that is a good thing for me.

You need to keep a notepad handy! ;) That'll reduce your second category to 2. lol

Always need to check the DIS several times a day for new info. I feel so "in the loop". If I miss a day for some reason I just seem so out of touch.:upsidedow

Rob makes a good point -- you can always ask a question even if you know it has been asked before. There are always people happy to answer your questions even if they seem redundant, and I have never mastered the search function on the DIS.

If you are worried about forgetting valuable information, you can subscribe to threads even if you don't post. That way you can go back and revisit particular threads as you get closer to your next visit.

I myself like to have something to look forward to. Which is why planning my vacation all year makes it more fun. It keeps me motivated to get in shape and save for my trip. :yay:

The DIS can be a double-edged sword, can't it? I check the DIS daily and it doesn't matter how far in advance I have a trip planned. I want to be kept in the loop as far as any new attractions, restaurants, etc.

I know what you mean about time crawling. For us, past trips were planned two years in advance so that meant a lot of lurking and waiting!:)
