OK DISNEY, TIME TO DO YOUR THING ABOUT THIS CRAP :furious:

It is definately a pettern.

The question is does Disney consider a Pattern for Profit.

I know that I would, but what I think, rarely matches the mainstream!

Some of those dates may go on firesale soon!

If you hadn't already, I have forwarded this to DVC inquiring into whether or not they consider this abuse. :furious:

I REALLY hopes DVC puts these people out of business. They are just hurting other members.

Just read this in this month's August Vacation Magic E-mail Update.

Policies protect personal use and enjoyment

In a continuing effort to maximize Members' personal enjoyment of their Membership, Disney Vacation Club would like to remind Members about several related policies outlined in the Public Offering Statement and other Member documents.

As a reminder, published policies limit the use of accommodations and recreational facilities solely to the personal use and enjoyment of Owners, their lessees, Guests, exchangers and invitees and for recreational uses by corporations and other entities owning Ownership Interests in a Unit.

To maximize the availability of reservations for these permitted purposes, Disney Vacation Club closely monitors reservations and may cancel reserved accommodations if a pattern of rental activity for profit is discovered.

Additionally, current policies limit Vacation Point-transfer transactions to one transfer per Member or Membership, either as transferee or transferor, during a given Use Year.

"We want to ensure that Members have the greatest opportunity to enjoy the magic of Membership," said Leigh Anne Nieman, Director of Business Standards and Regulatory Affairs for Disney Vacation Club. "With that in mind, we're committed to maximizing the availability of Ownership Interests and accommodations for Members' personal enjoyment, and we're committed to enforcing the policies that help us deliver on that commitment."

It has always been the policy of Disney Vacation Club that Membership is designed specifically to provide long-term personal enjoyment, and Members shouldn't purchase their Membership as an appreciable short-term investment.

After reading this rent board over the last month, it appears to me as though there are a few individuals who are getting several reservations for popular times at WDW (December) and then renting those reservations for $13 - $14 per point, 30% - 40% above the going rate. This is basically preventing others from getting reservations for this popular time using their own points.

Anyone else agree?

Just out of curiosity...how would DVC know if there was money being exchanged? And how would the "for profit" be determined? Many contract owners let family members/friends use their points and there may or may not be cash involved. Also, what if the points are only rented to cover maintenance fees, etc. Another scenario would be someone that does a direct trade for a non-DVC resort (again...no money passing hands). I personally feel the small contract owners (500 pts. or less?) don't have anything to worry about as I think Disney is really trying to crack down on people that have an extrememly large amount of points but never use them for a ressie in their own name. I'm trying not to get too anxious about the recent changes and will be curious to see if anyone has first-hand knowledge about actually being affected by them.

It sounds like a way for them to exercise their power if they find some type of abuse, but it would be extremely difficult for them to prove.

DVC never cared before, I guess DVC feels that a lot of money is being left on the table by people renting points instead of booking accomodations through WDW.

How many threads are we going to have on this topic? :rotfl2:

Also while you are pondering what Chuck S posted check out this link. It seems this person is getting RAVE reviews renting out our vacation slots for profit. He has around $5,000 worth of trips for rent right now also. These are the bad apples Disney needs to throw out of the barrell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The following ebayer is more active than the other one, but they all have in common that they only book the cheaper week nights, so they have more points available to book more weeks. Go to this site and click on the seller's name so you can see past transactions too.

This person has had 22 satisfied customers in the last 12 months!!!!!!!

Well, DVC would have to bid on the auction to find out the person whom is selling on eBay. Which would make them part of the problem or at least coersion.

DVC has a problem and it will be up to them to figure out how to enforce their rules.

I find it more interesting that now, after 16 years since nuance, they have an interest in DVC members renting.

As many as it takes for someone to take notice that this is the main topic of concern with members right now. You're the one clicking the read this post link. We personally don't rent or trade, but are disgusted being members and having difficulty getting availability due to people such as these abusing the system for the non-dues paying members.

Since these two threads are so very similar, I'm going to merge it into the one I quoted into this thread. So if you notice a lack of continuity in the first several posts of this thread, that is why. :)

Well in this person's defense, they do such a nice job describing the BCV, I caught myself about to bid on one of his listing. It sounded so nice, fortunatley, I remembered I had my own points to use!

I agree with you about the abuse and the need to fix the problem.

I just wish people would read a thread or two before asking, "So...what's going on here?"

I haven't found anything in the POS to support DVD's position here. And even if it could be upheld I would think they'd have to cancel a bunch of their own reservations as they're the "owner" with the most consistent pattern of rental for profit.

Some of you might be surprised to know that we own DVC as much as they do. What's good for the goose...

Chew on this: If this wasn't a bluff and DVD really could cancel such reservations why wouldn't they just do it instead of bothering with all of these call and transfer restrictions? The for-profit rental market would evaporate quickly and all of their problems would be solved.

Except that Disney's right to rent those units is specifically allowed as part of the DVC POS.
