Why do people stop and buy water on the way to WDW resorts?

Does the water at the resorts taste funny or something?

Wouldn't it be easier just to buy one of those bottles from Walmart that is insulated and has a strap and then refill it as you go in Disney?

The water does not taste funny although I always thought it tasted a little different (but that may just be psychological). Having a plastic container like you get at WalMart works. However, many of us bring bottled water for a different reason than just to have it. You stick a few in the freezer at night and take them with you frozen to the park the next day. Thus, you have real cold water once they start to unfreeze (fairly quickly in the Florida heat).

I, as an avid drinker of water for 29 years, am of the opinion that the water in the Orlando area does taste odd...or at least odd compared to what I'm used to. The only thing I can compare it to (this is going to sound rediculous) is that it kind of tastes like the way gravel smells. If that doesn't make any sence, I apoligize, but it's the best I have been able to come up with.

This is kinda gross, but I stick to bottled water when I go to WDW. Not because the tap water tastes bad, but because it tends to affect my digestive system adversely - if you know what I mean. ;)

The reason a lot of people, including me, do take their Brita filtered water bottles, bottled water, etc is that the sulfur content in the water supply is extremely high at WDW and has even made a lot of people ill to their stomaches. It stinks and tastes bad!:(

funkbucket007.

 Exactly. That is the perfect way to describe it. I could never find the words when I would try to explain it in other threads about this very same subject. You hit the nail on the head. If you travel down a gravel road and kick up dust with your car that is the smell/taste of the water at WDW. It's not necessarily bad. Most people drink it and are fine.

I just thought it was funny that you described it so perfectly.

The water does taste different than what I'm used to . . .but it's not nasty or anything . . .

DS says it tastes like "banana water" and won't drink it at all . . .

It's not just WDW, all of Florida's water has that sulphur smell and taste.

I have been drinking bottled water for many many years now. The only thing I use tap water for is wahsing clothes and showering. However I do find that Florida tap water has a sulfur smell, I do not even brush my teeth with it . The smell reminds me of the bathrooms in Penn Station, NYC - stinky!

Just get a plastic Britta bottle at Walmart. I use that and an insulated holder with a strap. The Britta fiter in the top of the bottle filters out that sulfur taste.

The water is ok, but when I was there last week, I found that the Fountain Soda tasted icky. I normally like fountain soda too. I think it was something strange with their Seltzer.

Whatever you do, please stay away from the BoardWalk Villas. It has the FUNNIEST water PERIOD: click here for proof... (That photo is on Our Laughing Place -- one of my favorite places for viewing incredible WDW photos.) :D

I always drink tap water at home, but the tap water at disney is pretty bad. I can generally tolerate it if I really need a glass and its too late to go to the food court, but the water at ASMo was *horrible*. Water from the restaurants has always been fine, though.

Funny, I live in N. Florida and our water is entirely different than that in Orlando. We have been there when it does smell like sulfur and times when it does not. Has to do with some sort of cycle at the water plant I think. My city water is very chlorinated IMO. We have been to the beaches and most major cities in FL and many have their own unique taste and smell. My local water is not offensive at any time. I have lived and traveled in other states and found some offensive tasting and smelling water too.
So, NO, not ALL Florida water is the same;) ! And WDW water can vary, depending on the cycle(and I don't know why they don't rid the water of the odor-must be a different treatment at their plant).

I don't think the water at the resorts is as bad as the fountains in the park. I didn't bring my water bottle to MK one night last May and drank from the fountain. It was warm and yucky. We do as drusba suggested, we freeze bottles at night and they thaw during the day as you go (we stay in a DVC 1 bedroom). I bought some insulated bottle holders at the outlet last month, going to try them in May. We pickup bottled water at Winn Dixie or Walmart, usually 6 for $2.50. At the park, one alone is $2.50!

How strange. We thought the same thing. I had come prepared with bottled water, but one day I stopped in the parks to ask for water and it tasted different to me. I don't mind it when brushing my teeth, but anything else..... I don't want to get sick at Disney!!
