Does the sword ever come out of the stone?

I would love to see the sword in the stone ceremony, but I understand it's gone. So my question is, does anyone ever get the sword out?

It does. A CM controls it with a remote. My friend had it happen to her once and afterward the CM explained how it worked. It doesn't come all the way out.

It comes out when Darth Vader uses the Force.

Thank you for the info.
:rotfl2: I remember that commercial.
Does someone pull the sword often? Like hourly or something?

I remember the ceremony from when I was a kid. Merlin would choose a child from the audience (never me... Boo!) and do a spell and the sword would lift up (not out). I imagine they had to stop because it congested the area in and out of the castle. Still, it's sad to see it gone. It is one of my favorite childhood memories from Disneyland.

Did they actually get rid of that show? It was one of my favorites! I remember getting picked and having a crown and cape put on and receiving the medal they would give out.

As a child I got to pull the sword in the ceremony. I was declared "Queen for the day" and got a certificate and my photo with Merlin while wearing a royal cloak and holding a scepter. It is one of my favorite Disney memories and I really wish I still had that certificate and photo. :(

My daughter has been chosen twice to come up and pull it out on two separate trips. As PP said it was a little ceremony and she got a certificate and a medal to wear around her neck. It was when she was probably around 6 and 7 years old. It was cute to watch. She still had her certificates and medals.

Not to beg the question, but is there a way for a child to pull the sword out of the stone? This is my Mom's favorite movie. It will be our first trip to DL in June and if one of the grandkids can pull the sword out of the stone, it will be the highlight of her lifetime! (I admit, my kids have been lukewarm to "Sword and the Stone," but my mom has done her best trying to tell the kids it is the best movie...ever). If I can get a picture of one of the kids pulling that sword out of the stone, it WILL be her gift of a lifetime!

Don't hold your breath for the ceremony to happen as PP's have said the ceremony isn't performed any more. But it is still a cool place to take your moms picture since she loves the movie so much. When you pull on the sword now it jiggles a little but won't come up. So you can tell it once did, maybe Disney will bring it back again one day.

Sonnyjane says someone can still pull it up, it's just that the right CM has to be watching with the remote.

Yup. Now it's just a spontaneous bit of magic as opposed to a formal ceremony ;)
