Does the new system kill DVC value?

But no can do if we have no tickets, right? Since there is a hold on ticket sales, there is no way to reserve park time with or without a DVC reservation for June 2021. Do I understand that correctly?

Not today...but once 2021 ticket sales open you can...they have said June 24th for rooms only to a package and June 28th for new.

Since DVC are room only buy don’t go to packages like cash guests, no one knows for sure if we have to wait until the 28th..it has been reported both ways.

Would it be an option to book a resort package with tickets, make Park reservations and then buy tickets that would be valid for our dates and cancel the resort package?
I am asking because I am waiting for my first DVC contract (currently in RoFR) and hoping to go for a few days in the first week of March with the extra points on our contract
Could this work? Or I could also buy tickets if they are available on the 28th, just not sure if ir will be the case!

If tickets sales for 2021 start on the 28th, then just do that!

Thank you! Problem is that I don't know what kind of tickets to buy. I would typically consider a Gold AP, but that doesn't make sense right now. And I'm not sure I want to tie up my money with regular tickets so far in advance in case any good AP deals are released for 2021. Once I buy park tickets, I can't upgrade unless and until I visit a park. Everything is so up in the air right now!

Unfortunately, that Is going to be a dilemma while this system is in place and the parks are not back to capacity...although in my opinion, this will be more of a formality come 2021.

It is why some 2020 guests, DVC included are frustrated...they decided not to buy tickets yet as there really was no reason...had COVID not hit, it would not have mattered.

Now, it could.

Exactly! Thanks for your thoughts and insight.

AP can book up to 3 days without resort reservations right now.

So, until that changes I guess yes, you’ll be locked into that may days until your reservation is there, but that doesn’t have to do with DVC but being an AP

A DVC owner who has a multi day ticket would be all set to book 2021 days, same as cash guest, prior to reserving.

We also have no idea when they will life the 3 day limit.

Point is though you can only book 11 months out, whereas a cash guest can book 18 months out. Many UK guests have already booked for next summer and fall on packages.

Got it. Then yes, DVC owners are at a disadvantage there, but we always have been.

Yes but before you did not have to book a park. Now there are people (many in the UK) who from Sunday who can book the park access there and then. We never had this before, we were always on an even keel on fastpass and dining. Now we will have tens of thousands booking park access long before we can.

I understand but I am not sure that we will see a change to the temporary 11 month rule. Not even sure how that would work as Youd not have access to all the points yet.

Sure does mean that for June to September 2021 DVc will be at a disadvantage right now.

ETa: Disney is not allowing stays beyond Sept 2021, even though normal booking is 499 days in advance for cash stays.

I have been struggling with something that didn't seem right about the current system, and I think the OP's thought was about what I was thinking. How can you book now through Aug '21 when you can't book DVC until Sept? Why did they choose that date?

Then I remembered this;
I would not be going in Aug '20 if I did not have DVC. I would have had a refundable room, with refundable air tickets, and potentially would not have even bought park tickets. I would have been out nothing and I would have cancelled - FOR SURE. The majority of people are in the category. So, because I do have DVC, I will be experiencing the parks as uncrowded as they have ever been. Is that a DVC perk? Not really, but that is where we are at. Fingers crossed, by Aug. '21 this will be over, and there will be a new normal; FP+ is sure to change, DDP and ADR's are sure to change - it likely won't be what it was, but it for sure won't be what is going on right now. This is temporary, this will change. Mask up and enjoy the experience for what it is.

Based on now 2021 ticket packages being sold 4 days before DVC can even buy tickets is a huge black eye to DVC in general.

We will see but I just wish Disney came out and stated all Cash and DVC rooms have park entrance allotment in their calculations. Might not be the specific park but it is a park.

By next year,, capacity should be back to normal
Hmm. I don’t see what’s going to be all that different. The capacity limit is likely to increase with operational understanding, but I don’t see the eradication of COVID by then, nor do I think we will just stop caring about it.

I personally think it will be back to where reservations for the day won’t be a big deal. We shall see

As in you don’t have to make them, or as in they won’t be too hard to get?

But there was no park reservation issue before

Correct, and right now, cash is at an advantage e for getting park reservations for 4 days ahead of DVC.

But, let’s be fair, until this all happened, DVC gave a lot of benefits over remaining a cash guest...especially in room savings.

So, i just don’t see this once in a lifetime situation and it’s effects as a reason to say the DVC sky is falling,

On June 28th, when tickets go on sale...the 11 month window won’t matter because you won’t need a reservation to book the park.

Where it will hit all guests, even DVC is having to buy tickets a lot farther in advance then they are used to.

DVC value was killed when DVC stole points. They continue to do so, not allowing owners to bank points into 2021, from 2019, that were targeted for canceled 2020 reservations.

Our only option is to RENT those points out. The Disney line is "RCI". A total joke.
So yes - DVC value has been killed. By theft.
