My friend's daughter has cold urticaria. It occurs when the skin is exposed to cold temperatures. It is very serious. She was seen by an allergist after passing out after swimming(it will even happen when there is a temperature change in her body temp). We live in Canada, so it has been hard for her to manage
. She gets hives, welts, joints and lips swell. She takes benadryl before exposing herself to cold environments and wears mitts and warm clothes when the rest of us wouldn't think to. She does have an epi-pen. It is so bad that in the summer when she has ice cream, her lips will swell. It is a very uncommon thing, and most doctors wouldn't have heard of it. It was bad for 2 years but seems to be getting alittle better. The can't say if it is a lifelong infliction.

) and passed out. Because I know that I get hives, I've steered clear of really cold things, so I don't know if that would happen again or not?
