Does the attraction group matter with DAS?

With FP's, is it possible that we will not be able to get a pass for certain attractions like the Group A attractions? We're new to this, so I'm trying to figure it all out. TIA!

DAS is totally separate from Fastpass. Your return time for ANY attraction will be based on that attraction's current standby time. You can use FP and DAS concurrently.

So, basically, you can get a FP for a "tier 1" attraction and then get a DAS for the other one. However, since those are popular rides, your wait time to ride will be long-ish. But, you can also get a DAS for the SAME RIDE that you hold a FP for, if you want to ride it twice.

Does that make sense? Basically, the DAS doesn't even consider what fastpasses you have and vice versa.

Makes perfect sense! I just was confused if they were basically the same, as that's what we had heard. Glad to hear they're separate though. Makes me a little less anxious about it all. Thank you!

for some things the DAS is 5+ DAS holder so if you have more than 5+ the DAS holder, you might need to split up.

What does that have to do with the question? Needing to split up (or not) is not based on the ride (or the tier group of the ride).

because if they have more than 6 people in their group and they do not get a FP for a ride and they think they can all go on it together using a DAS they may be told no. Just giving the OP some other information that may or not apply to them then if it does not then they can move on, like you can,

Their count down does say our great big family vacation, which could be many people or just a once in a blue moon trip

What does that mean exactly? We have a party of 8. It was my understanding that with supervisor approval, the group could be larger than 6. I'm just trying to understand this all.

Sometimes/ most of the time you can get a supervisor to over ride the 6 person thing, but the way I have seen it done is that at GR they will put whom ever on the DAS pass then when you go to the ride they will ask who is riding you tell the CM and sometimes they can only pick 6 people. I would say most of the time it will be ok, just wanted to give you a heads up in case you all could not go on the DAS. I will say this the CM are not there to make your vacation bad, but I can see ( and I have heard ) at space them only letting 6 people go since the cars only hold 6 people.

Didn't realize this. Everything I was reading while researching was saying if it's over 6 people total in a group, but the DAS is approved, they just need a manager to "override" it in the system and all would be fine. I sure hope they don't make some of our family sit out rather than enjoy an attraction together. We're doing all the fastpasses we can to cut down on needing to use the DAS, but we can only do so much. Thanks for the heads up though.

I was just trying to give you a heads up, I have been behind large groups of DAS holder ( more than 6) a few times. I have also been behind ( when getting a DAS return time) when the CM told the group they had to split up ( I was behind one group at space for a good 15 minutes while the Dad was yelling at the CM to put all the people on the return time and the CM said he could only do 6. I was just trying to give you a heads up on what I have seen heard and hopefully it will not be an issue with you.

I was getting a retrun time ( I think it was peter pan) the CM could only give the group infornt of me 6 people on there DAS the dad ( I am guessing that was who) asked who was going to do the stand by line with him none of his kids ( agin guessing ) said they would untill he said who ever does get icream after I think 2 out of the 3 said they would go standby.

Thanks :) Sounds like it depends on the attraction/wait times/CM at the time. Do you know if we only have 4 people (including the one with the DAS) want to go on something, but the other 4 do not, can they do that? What I'm asking is if when getting a return time, we can do it for only part of the group? I know the one with the pass has to be going on the attraction, and that's fine. :)

you can break up the DAS any way you want just as long as the DAS holder rides my mom will often sit out of a ride ( space) that my Dad and I go on. when you go to get the return time The CM will ask you who is riding if you are not sure it is better to add them ( other wise if they are not added they will not be going)

and yes I think it really does depend on the time/ride/CM/ what type of mood the CM is in/and I do not know where the sun is in the sky;)

We used the DAS for my ds with autism this January. When you walk up to the turnstile, you'll ask the CM if you could please have the DAS for the ride. They'll say sure and ask for the magic band of the DAS person. The DAS person does not need to be there, only the band. When they swipe it, the CM will see all the names of people in your party that day, and you'll tell them who is going on the attraction. It's really easy peasy. Once or twice maybe we had a CM who was new and didn't know how, but usually it was a snap. Just swipe, they tap tap, and you're done. Mainly you just have to wait for the correct CM, because there will only be one CM who has the (I forget, the phone, tablet, whatever it was) to do it.

You are correct that tiers, etc. won't matter. You'll be able to get a return time for any ride. If the posted wait is less than 10 minutes, they'll shoo you right in to the FP line already, no waiting at all.

The thing is, if the FP line is long, it's still gonna be long. Like we wanted to do FEA, and I think we waited in line 45 minutes, even with the DAS. I just didn't pick the time very well, should have gone first thing. Same for 7DMT. Go at a low time AND use the DAS if it's really important to keep the lines down. Touring Plans' is really helpful.

It was a lot of work planning our trip, but the DAS worked out really well. MK is the worst to plan, because there are so many rides. The other parks also have shows. I was surprised by the waits for shows. Even if you have the DAS or a FP, there's still waiting. The Frozen Sing-Along had a wait to get in. You didn't get seated right away. There were tvs, but he had to stand with people and not be touching and bumping. Muppets 3D at MK, same gig. We got through the line and then had to wait for the next show. Turtle Talk with Crush also had a holding pen waiting area. You might want to have a game plan for those areas, like a special snack you brought just for that. I don't know what your disability is, just saying those holding pen waits were a surprise for us. So me, I would never want to do a regular standby que AND the holding pen with ds. That would be awful, basically a double wait.

We waited in one line at MK because my mother zoomed ahead with him. I thought oh, it's a carousel, it will load quickly. OH MY LANDS. Huge mistake. So don't under any circumstances let well-meaning relatives do that, kwim? If you need the DAS, just be draconian. Better than dealing with the consequences.

You'll be really glad you spent this time planning when you get there. I spent an absurd amount of time, but our trip with ds went really, really well. We're going back again, and this time it's a bit less hard just because I have my brain wrapped around it and know what happens. But definitely spend the time, even if it feels overwhelming.

Are you doing the mobile ordering for food? It's SLICK and they've expanded it. You really, really, really want to do mobile ordering. Oh my lands. There is no DAS for food. Actually, they magic'ed us, bless their souls. I tried to mobile order our BoG lunch, didn't get it done, and they, bless their souls, magically opened a line for us when we got up there. I was so tired and exhausted with him, and all of a sudden they are like here, come to this line we're opening!! For real. But don't plan on that. Personally, if you really, really have issues with waiting in line, I would do TS or pick QS that has mobile ordering. I think they just got it at the big QS restaurant in MK. We stood in line there and it was bad (tight, loud, overwhelming, fast). Food was great and we found a fast spot to eat, but I would never do that again without the mobile ordering. We're going to try the Satuli Canteen at AK when we go because they have the mobile ordering. When I have elderly relatives along with ds, they just can't handle his behaviors when waiting. If he gets overloaded, it spoils EVERYONE'S trip and makes EVERYONE stressed. So mobile order, DAS, think it all through ahead. We had a great trip and you will too. :)

Ok, I don't want to step on toes here, and I'm sure all kinds of people have all kinds of opinions. I think you could think about whether it *matters* to the individual with the DAS to be together, or whether he'd have more fun with his own, separate itinerary part of the time. I would think about it. I had an amazing time on the days where it was just me and my ds. We could be more spontaneous and go with his unique interests. It's just something to consider.

What we did at Epcot that worked really well was their Agent Perry detective thing. My ds would have been horrific going through the countries and stalls too much waiting, stuff he couldn't engage with. So that is a reason to consider splitting your group. People who want to do things that maybe your other person won't enjoy can go do them and he can have his own, totally magical experience. The detective adventures in Epcot were AMAZING. We did all of them. Totally endorse. :)

And, fwiw, just totally tossing this out, the people who do the pirate makeovers are AMAZING with autism. I supposed they'd be great with any disability. I don't know how long they normally spend, but they spent an hour and a half with my ds, taking it slowly, keeping him comfortable. He's very literal, so he missed all the jokes. It was HILARIOUS. He loved, loved, loved how he looked, and it gave him a way to interact with people around the parks. It was very magical. He was uncomfortable with characters, but BEING a character was fine for him. :D

You can uses anyone magic bands or card that is linked to the DAS to get a return time

We aren't doing mobile ordering as we have the quick service dining plan. From what I understand, it's not available if you're using that. :(

Some places is with the updated app ( for Apple at lest)

That's interesting! I thought I had read it had to be the DAS person's band/card, and the CM always asked my ds for his band. But sure, having anyone's band work would be convenient. :)

I would definitely do like the other person is saying and keep checking about mobile ordering. Or split your group up to where the DAS person can go wait at the table while the others bring the food. Columbia Harbour House is the one we ate at in January. Food was really good, but oh my lands the wait. It was noisy, tight, hard. It was a VERY hard environment to wait with my ds in. I would not plan on waiting *in* the ordering line if your DAS person has trouble with lines.

But yeah, with that big a group, you could send someone and take a table. But still, we waited, I don't know, it was traumatic honestly. Like if I had had to do that multiple times, I would not have left liking Disney.

I think we also went at a non-peak time for the QS. That's another strategy. But even then, there was a significant wait in line. That was on maybe a 4 or 5 or 6 day on Touring Plans, not a 10 or anything. I think it was supposed to be 3 and it quietly got bumped up right before, lol.

Another strategy would be to have the larger group go ahead, order the meal, get seated, and you and the DAS person do something else during that 15-20 minutes. Like go buy a balloon or take a ride that you can just walk on, etc., kwim? Then you just walk in to the table area and meet them. Now with phones, that would be easy.

Yes, you can there are rides I do when others are with me that I will not do on my own because they can go get a return time for me.

Every now and then the band does not work but this is not that often.
