Another post made me wonder - we are supposed to be stopping at a super walmart enroute to the port in order to pick up some supplies - and now I'm wondering if that is the best place - I know some will likely want to pick up some alcohol (hard liquor, like rum, etc)

I'm Canadian - so we have to buy our alcohol at special liquor stores.

There's an ABC Liquor store about a mile down A1A from the port. Address is 6020 North Atlantic Avenue. I'd give that a shot. There's also a Publix with a liquor store a little further down the road. They may have better prices.

They have alcohol at walmarts. We have one in Missouri. There selection is strong in some areas and light in others. Beer, cheaper side wines, wine coolers, and margaritas they have a good selection. They have rum, vodka, etc. However, they do not have a huge selection of wines and harder alcohol. They have typically 4 or so brands of the hard alcohol and like 15 brands and/or flavors of wine. You can get your alcohol at walmart but if they drink something a little uncommon they may not have it.

I've never seen hard liquor at Wal-mart. Ber and wine yes, but rum, vodka, etc, no.

The Super Walmarts in my area have hard liquor! It is sold at one of the registers up front at one of the stores, and in the other it is back with the beer/wine.

Whether or not it has alcohol (more than beer/wine) is going to depend on the state. Now growing up in Michigan, our local home-town grocery store had packaged liquor behind a counter by the cash registers, and they sold it in our Meijer as well. In Wisconson, package liquor could only be sold in liquor stores, but almost every grocery store had one attached (different door/registers/hours, but attached to the grocery). Here in NC, the state-run ABC stores tend to be located in seemingly random locations (not necessarily the most convenient) and groceries can only sell beer and wine.

As there are ABC stores in Florida as well, my guess is that their state laws are similar, but a quick google search should be able to verify.

Different states have different laws/rules regarding where hard alcohol can be sold. If the store you are referring to is in FL please state the location and if your store is not in FL then your state has different laws that don't apply to FL. I've even read on there that different counties within FL have different times when hard alcohol can be sold.

In the Orlando area I've only seen beer and wine sold at grocery stores, Target and WalMart, not hard alcohol. I have noticed that Publix near WDW has a separate liquor store that sells hard liquor.

Great post (from another Canadian looking to stock up on the way :) ! ) Which of the suggested locations would have the best wine selection?

The Missouri store does sell them. It is just not a huge selection. They do not have a huge variety. The vodka and rum they only have like one to three brands. I know because I picked up some stuff for margarita supplies for New Years. It may vary or they may have been sold out when you visited. At my store the selection is limited and their stock always seem to be four bottles or less.

Don't forget they sell alcohol on the ship. They have a great selection. I don't know the difference between one whiskey and another, but I know they had plenty to choose from on the hard drinks. Since I always go for the cheap stuff and usually drink some kind of frozen mixed drink or a wine cooler I am not the best to talk to about how they rank as far as pricing and if there selection is the good stuff or if they just have a selection. I know from talking with others at work that they have some great Tequila on board and the price is comparible to the port prices on that same Tequila. If you are looking for alcohol to bring on to the ship I would just stop at some place in Florida that specializes in alcohol. Best to go to one place that has it all rather than stop at Walmart and they not have x wine or x vodka. If you want something exotic I would look on the ship or at a port. You should not have any trouble finding alcohol of your liking on the trip. I was having Strawberry Daquiri's and Pina Colada's daily.

Walmarts in Florida do not carry hard liquor.

The prices on the ship won't even come slightly close to what one could save by bringing their own bottle(s) onboard.

Sorry. I forgot to post that I am in Indiana. Didn't think about the different state/different law thing.
