Does staying at PO involve more walking to food courts than the ASmo would?

I'm starting to plan a trip with my kids and myself and would like to surprise my mother by taking her too.

Problem is she's had 2 hip replacements surgeries and walking long distances would be a problem for her (of course I know the parks would involve walking, but thinking of a wheelchair or ECV for her there).

I'm torn also because she's never been ANYWHERE. She's suffered a massive stroke years back which left her with aphasia and apraxia. Although we communicate by writing and some words and hand gestures, she cannot converse normally and I want so badly to give back to her. She's so generous even today with me and my kids and I really want to stay somewhere special that she will love.

I know PO is beautiful, but too spread out? POR more spread out than POFQ?

Would a 56 y/o woman find the ASmovies too confining?

She loves to have fun, she's very emotional when seeing beautiful scenery, babies, children, very affectionate and loves movies as much as we do, especially Disney ones. Loves to see her grandchildren enjoy themselves.

Which would you choose for you're mom? POR, POFQ or ASMovies and why?

Thanks for any and all advice :)

I'm not sure which hotel I'd choose for you mother, but for me I'd choose either POFQ or POR and not ASmo. To solve all of your mobility issues you could rent an ECV from an offsite company and keep it the entire time you are at Disney, not just for use in the parks. Then it wouldn't matter how far away from anything you were, your mom would be able to get to places without pain and trouble. The folks on the dissablities board have great info about the offsite companies. I think its great you want to take her. Have a great time whatever you decide.

Wow, thank you so much for the info about the ECV, I didn't realize you could rent them from an outside source. I really am leaning toward PO for her sake, I think the atmosphere would be better for her. My kids would be happy anywhere in the "world".

I'm on my way over to the disabilities board, thank you again.

After my four nights at POR.. and my stay at POFQ several years ago, I would suggest POFQ. THe grounds are just as nice, but it is a shorter walk to the main building and busstop from most blgs at the FQ.

We also lots of ECVs, and the bus drivers were wonderful with the ramps.

Hi! POFQ really is WAY smaller than POR and it sounds like it would be great for you. Our room was larger than I expected and we were only a few minute walk from buses, pool, and the main building with shop, food court, etc. We did take the boat to POR and it is really nice as well but VERY SPREAD OUT. Both are gorgeous and one could spend quite a lot of time relaxing and taking in the scenery.

Hope this trip works out for you and your mom! :flower:

I second the ECV rental, for 10 days last year we only paid $150 and it had a sunshade and was VERY convenient. Then, she is free to move about however she wants. They delivered right to our resort and picked up the day we left. Check the DisAbilities board for reputable companies.
