Does smoking cause headaches?

I don't know if it causes the smoker to have headaches but it gives me headaches. As does perfumes and other things that smell. Alot of things set off my migraines and smoke is one of them. Not to mention that my airway feels like it almost closes up and I have to leave the room to breathe.

I don't smoke but my grandmother does. Whenever I'm around her when she is smoking or go into a room after she has smoked in there, I tend to get a headache. I can't sit in the smoking section of a restaurant because I always leave with a headache.

A lot of people say the fumes gives them a headache so I suspect it probably does in some people. My parents were heavy smokers, I smoked and Dh is a heavy smoker. I never thought about it but that could be why I have frequent headaches. Hmmmm another good reason for Dh to quit.

Does anyone know if smoking causes headaches? I was just curious.

Among other things, it constricts your blood vessels, so yes, it could cause headaches.

Well here is something funny.
I quit smoking in April. (but have been known to bum some once in a while)

In July I was going through a MASSIVE bought of Cluster Migraines.
I bummed a smoke off my mom when I was visiting her...(I had a migraine at the time)

would you believe it lessened the migraine?

My mother even discussed this with her doctor...who wants her to quit as well...but he said "I'm not advising it...but if it eases the pain...have at it."

could be a fluke thing...but hey - if you've ever had a migraine, you know you'll do ANYTHING to make the pain stop.

yes, among those who don't smoke and are sensitive to cigaret smoke. I got a migraine for two days just by sitting near the smoking secton at Max and Erma's.

I'm another one who gets a splitting headache when I am around smoke. I mean nausea inducing.

I'm another who does not smoke but gets serious headaches when around it for any amount of time or by somebody who reeks of it.

I don't know if it causes headaches, but why not?
It has so many other horrible effects , why not headaches too?

I got headaches from smoking when I smoked and get them now when I am near smokers.

I smoked for about 11 years (almost 1 year smoke free--yah!) and I constantly had a headache and I know it was from the cigarettes. There were days I even woke up with a splitting headache.

I get congested and terrible headaches from being around cigarettes. In the days when smoking was allowed on planes, it was torture. I refuse to go to restaurants that don't have adequte ventilation and am thrilled that Chicago is going smoke free.

Bingo! Also contributes to poor circulation in the extremities. If you smokers have cold feet and hands, blame the ciggies.
