Does Shoe Goo work?

After reading some of the threads here, I feel this may be trivial.

My old hiking boots' sole separated and I used shoe goo on them. Haven't used them yet, but wondering if I should buy new boots for an upcoming National Park trip in Sept. I don't hike much, every couple of years.

I don't want to buy new hiking boots, but don't want my old ones to start flapping!

Does Shoe Goo work for a couple of weeks? Do you have another suggestion?

Thanks so much

Susan

I fixed my hiking boots last week when the toe came apart from the sole. The next day I took them on an 8 mile hike and they held up fine. I'd say for the $6 or so for a tube to shoe goo its worth a try. I figure I might get another year out of the boot, well worth it to not have to break in a new pair...

Sort of OT- but I never even knew about shoe goo until I got into RC trucks and read about its use in reinforcing the body at the mounting points.

I know random thought.

Equally random: I just learned of it through my ds14 who's an avid skateboarder. He glops it all over the toes and says it helps him grip the board while doing tricks. :thumbsup2

OP can you try wearing them around a while and see if every day use makes them come apart? It won't mean they'll last though hiking but if they do come apart you'll know that a repair surely won't survive a hiking trip.

Hey, we could write a book & get rich!
Instead of 101 uses for duct tape, it will be 101 uses for Shoe Goo! :rotfl:
Now, how to get past #3....popcorn:: :scratchin

My hubby used it to repair his sneakers and they are holding up fine.

He also used it to repair the holes in the bottom of the trash can. I would have just bought new ones since those are 10 years old.

It is a product that not many, at least in my circles, know about. After being told about its use, it took me 3 trips to wal mart just to find it. Although the second trip was to the smallest wal mart I've ever been in.

Thanks everyone.

I learned about it when I worked at a sporting goods store many decades ago.

Will walk around here for a while to see if they hold up.

It also works great as a waterproofer for snow boots that "leak". A lot of times it's coming from the seam between the sole and the uppers.

My DH uses it on his work boots (he does highway construction), and it usually stretches the life of them for 2 or 3 months.

We use it on skateboard shoes - my son can go through a pair of shoes every two weeks if he skateboards a lot - I just have him put shoe goo on them where he rubs the shoe against the board, and at least they last him a few more weeks. But we've never tried actually holding the sole on - just holding the uppers together and to provide something other than shoe to rub against.
