Late response, but I've been busy!
I don't remember how they found out or figured it out, but our DDs knew by the time they were four years old that there was no Santa, so gifts from anyone other than DH and me or other members of the family were "from someone who loves you." I don't know why we bothered to try to disguise the giver's identity, DDs were on to us.
