does "quiet" Disney dining actually exist?

Can you guys think of any Disney restaurants that are relatively quiet? I know "quiet" and "Disney" is a bit of an oxymoron...


DF and I are planning for a small wedding in Disney Jan 09. My brilliant family loves Disney just as much as I do...but the DF's family...not so much. I'm hoping for a nice place to ease them into the Disney way of life...

And to make it even harder... I'm looking for a place NOT in the parks. Since they are already spending so much for travel expenses, I don't want to force them to buy park tickets for dinner.

Oh, and one more qualifier. Reasonable pricing (for Disney)...so probably not V&A.


Any ideas?

Yes...Victoria and Alberts. That's about it.

You could try Citricos or Jiko, they are beautiful but they will not be quiet or genteel. You could ask to sit in the wine room at Jiko. I have never been to Yachtsman Steakhouse but I hear that may be an option.

If you are looking for something that does not have signature pricing...maybe Spoodles.

I did think of Spoodles...and I know it can be pretty loud...but it doesn't really SCREAM Disney.


Although maybe I just shouldn't care and make them go to a character meal!!

We thought that yachtsmens steakhouse was on the quiet side, however it isn't cheap either.

We've done (and are doing again) California Grill and while it was adult noisy it wasn't super rambunctious or overly formal. If you do the late night seating you can watch the fireworks over the Kingdom. Super cool but either way the view is awesome, food is very good, and not as expensive (but not cheap!) as V&A.

These aren't exactly cheap either, but what about Artist's point or California Grill? Or even Fulton's at downtown disney?

I love California Grill for the food, but due to the way it is constructed it is very noisy and busy. Not the same way as a character meal, but by no means is it quiet. I'd describe it as "bustling." You do get that view of the Magic Kingdom though. And they also have a wine room (from there you can see pretty much the entire WDW resort area EXCEPT the Magic Kingdom, only it's all quite far away)

I did mention Jiko, and the Animal Kingdom Lodge itself is awesome.

We vacation every year during January. This past January we ate at many of the DIsney signatures. While Ca Grill was it's usually noisy evening, Jiko was extremely quiet. We went on a Friday night and it appeared that many of the diners were business associates. They were no families present; I did not see one young diner in the entire place. We did eat at 8:30. There was a large party seated in the wine room.

Citricos can be quieter than some of the others and so can Artiste Point at WL. Tables there are spaced further apart. Food is good but the decor is far from romantic.

Another choice could be bluezoo at the Dolphin. It's generally a bit more adult oriented too.

We had 7:30 breakfast at Boma and it was dead quiet...they sat us in this little alcove that overlooked the greenery...we loved it.

Chefs de France at 5:30, they sat us along the windows...it was great.

I didn't mention Bluezoo because every time I go in there it's full of little kids. I think people like the kids' menu.

Also, Bluezoo is very expensive. It's also really good.

Since you are wanting to ease DF's family into Disney, I would suggest California Grill, timed just right. Maybe not as "quiet" as some, but what better way to experience the magic than watching Wishes from way up there, music piped in and everything.

Plus, I don't know - maybe its just me - but I would think nothing would capture the imagination and make you yearn to try out the Disney Magic like watching the monorail whoosh by, through the building, on its way over to the MK.

I personally can't imagine anyone NOT loving Disney... but there are some strange people out there...

These are all really good options!! I haven't been to several of the places mentioned..so I'll have to check out menus!

In our experience, nearly every restaurant as WDW (other than V&A) has been appallingly noisy. If it's not horribly noisy with kids running all over, it's noisy with conventioneers.

For example, we hoped to have a quiet dinner one night at Citrico's. The food was delicious, but it was unbelievably noisy. Disney makes no attempt to provide music as white noise either.

When we've dined at California Grill, it's been overrun with noisy kids. One time at the table next to us, the two kids were chasing each other around the table and the boy had taken the chopsticks and was using his little sister as a drum -- once he caught her. Not at all conducive to a nice quiet wedding dinner with friends.

We have found we sometimes do a bit better if we book dinner late -- after 9 p.m. All of the resort signature restaurants are very expensive (though not in V&A's league).

Depending on your group size, I would look into the price to use the private room at California Grill. It comes with a gorgeous view of the fireworks and is completely by itself, so you avoid all of the fireworks insanity in the main restaurant. I just don't know how large your party has to be or how much it costs to reserve it. I would say the room seats 40 comfortably, but they may allow a smaller party to use it.

You can ask for the wine room at Jiko or CG, but no guarantees it will be any quieter. The last time we were at CG, the wine room was nearly filled with two big family parties with tons of noisy kids. So no relief there.

If it is not busy with conventioneers, Maya Grill at Coronodo Springs can be quieter than most places. Artist Point is quieter than some -- if you go late. Jiko is never quiet -- too many families staying in the hotel dine there because AKL is so far from anything else. Grand Floridian Cafe sometimes seems a bit quieter to me for meals other than breakfast. Yacht Club Galley at the Yacht Club can be quieter at times. Yachtsman Steakhouse if you go later might work.

Just a few thoughts based on extensive experience dining at WDW.

Is this the same room I am thinking of as the wine room? That room does not face the Magic Kingdom at all. The party would have to leave that room and use the observation deck if they wanted to see MK fireworks. You can see Illuminations high fireworks from there as you can see Epcot, but they're quite far away.

Well you can count my brother in that category of not liking Disney. He doesn't get why we go so much lol

We had a wonderful wedding dinner for 11 at YSH. We were in the back and truthfully hardly noticed any other guests.

Having been to all the signature restaurants numerous times, I can say with certainty there is not one that is relatively quiet. Artist Pointe and Jiko would be the best of the bunch. Will you have a car? I would consider traveling off property if it's going to be that much of an issue.

Don't think we'll have a car. And besides..I'M the bride and I want to eat at DISNEY! They will just need to deal. Disney will do them some good!

The only other quiet/romantic one I can think of off the top of my head would be Bistro de Paris - which is the upscale one above Chefs in France. They routinely have folks proposing/celebrating anniversaries there, it tends to be more couples than families, and they don't participate in the 180+10 ADR system, so you can only make ressies 30 days out....
