Does Pixie Dust Help with Decision-Making? A 2012 PTR! NEW! 6/30 pg.85

Fish Camp Cottage, looks like a perfect location for a beach vacation! I think you scored big time for your family this past summer...

Connor is one lucky kid to be able to feed those gators! That looks like so much fun and I would have been there next to him, pole in hand!

Next summer I hope we can take a detour over and see Savannah on our way to Disney when we go through Georgia. I really enjoy history too!

Can't wait to see the souvies!

The fort looks really cool! I never even knew sesquicentennial was a word until last year when we heard a bunch of stuff about Lincoln visiting NH. My friend Laura is a historian & was doing a lot of Lincoln work around that time!

I didn't realize it was a word either until I started doing Latin roots for vocabulary with my students. One of the roots is "cent" meaning hundred and one of their vocabulary words is sesquicentennial.

I love the crabs - sorry they didn't have a very long lifespan.

We didn't figure they would last too long, but we were surprised it was only a month.

I cringe every time I see it.

Feeding alligators...

They were just itty bitty ones. On most days I wouldn't dream of letting Connor feed big ones.

Can't wait to see your souvenirs!

Coming up tonight.

Someday Chelsea will talk about that trip to the fort and be appreciative that she got to go...I know, I have done that with many things my parents dragged me to do in my teen years and now I appreciate it so much.

Same here! In fact, I don't think there was a family trip where I didn't complain/pitch a fit at least once, but now I look back on those trips very fondly.

Oh that hat. I have no words. At least it wasn't a tshirt? :rotfl2:

You know she has insisted on something like that for a couple of years, and she finally got one. She's quite proud of it. :scared:

Poor Mickey and Ponce, I thought hermit crabs lived a long time!

Apparently not at our house. It was so sad because Connor had been such a good caretaker -- feeding them and bathing them and taking them out to explore. It just wasn't meant to be, I guess.

Tybee Island looks so beautiful. I really need to come down South and explore all the historic things, maybe you can be my tour guide someday when I make it down there. :thumbsup2

I would love that!!!

Tybee looks like such a beautiful place, Jackie. What a wonderful place to soake up the sun with the family. Thanks for sharing with us! I hope this doesn't mean your PTR is going to close...? :sad2:

Thanks, Kristen. Not a chance on closing the PTR -- we have to talk about the next trip!

Love the fort! We had many a trip where we visited places like that and I always thought they were so cool.

Poor Ponce and Mickey! I had no idea something like that would happen after a month. :confused3

Three out of the four of us really enjoyed our expedition to the fort.

I think the crabs developed an illness of some sort -- I read that they last a long time, but not poor Ponce and Mickey.

Your mornings on Tybee sound so wonderfully relaxing!!

It was a lovely way to start each day just being outside on the porch and watching the world wake up.

The fort looks so neat! Sorry Chelsea complained! Teenagers!

Yes, Chelsea always makes sure to let us know when she isn't having a good time. :sad2:

I’m sorry about the hermit crabs! DS8 kept a several hermit crabs he collected at the beach in a bucket on our front porch. That was until they grew a little to big for their shells and started trying to evict one another to find a new home! ACK!!

Yikes!

It looks like you had a lovely day at the beach on your last day!

We did! ::yes::

I love your comment about Chelsea’s airbrush hat! LOL!! I thought they only did that at the Jersey Shore! My favorite is the airbrushed tee shirts that are cut up to have tassels! Yup!!

Oh, those are beauties, too. LOL! Charles and I joked about getting matching shirts with dolphins that say Charles and Jackie 4-Ever! Chelsea did not find us amusing.

Holy moly that is a lot of gators!!! YIKES! I love the Spanish moss in the trees too! There’s just something about it! I can’t even put my finger on it!

Can’t wait for more!

Souvies coming up next! And lots more!

So glad you got to take the trip. :thumbsup2

It was a fun change of pace, but I am ready for some Disney magic!

You did look a bit pink in that last dinner picture. Yikes!

I should have known better.

Sorry about the hermit crabs. I thought about getting some for the classroom, but most people say they don't last long, so decided against it.

Good idea -- it was very hard for Connor to lose them so soon.

My girls are enjoying Panama City Beach this week. They saw dolphins, and Brooklynn got a dolphin necklace to commemorate that. Jill said there have been a lot of dead jellyfish on the beach. The girls have picked a few thousand shells, I think, so they'll have to go through those and choose just a few to take home.

Were they able to narrow down their choices, or did they bring them all home? How fun that they saw dolphins!

Are you and Charles going to get a long weekend F&W trip, by any chance?

Sadly, no. It seems like every time I turn around lately we are having to put money out for stuff. This month alone, I have had to replace my car battery and Bella had to take a trip to the vet ($200 later) for skin allergies. :sad2:

What a great vacation, well aside from Chelsea complaining about the trip to the fort, that is. I love history, so it would have been right up my alley!

I love history, too, so I don't get why Chelsea doesn't enjoy it.

I, too, love the look of the spanish moss in the trees. My desktop wallpaper right now is a picture of the oaks at Boone Hall Plantation covered in moss - so pretty!

One of my favorite places ever! Love it!!!

Mmm, your season festivities always make me hungry!! :rotfl2:

Did you see my latest pictures?

Love your last 2 days there! Oh Chelsea...I agree with LL, at least it wasn't a shirt? Maybe it can somehow disappear this winter by accident in the good will bag?? ;)

Ready to see the souvies!

I don't think I can spirit that hat away. Chelsea loves it too much and would notice if it went missing.

Great updates there Jackie! I really love going to the NPS historical sites! We were just at Harper's Ferry and had a great time. They really know how to design the museum aspects of the sites, as well as great restoration! Neat photos. I know my kids would love that site.

Harper's Ferry would be cool! One day we will make it up that way.

I can't wait to hear how your fall is going. We were SOO cold this weekend!! I hope Jen did alright while she was here!!! What happened to fall??!! LOL! Well they say it is coming back this week.... I hope all is well with you!

Our weather can't make up its mind. We're cold then hot then it's getting cold again. I guess that is October in the South. Are you getting all packed and ready for your big weekend trip? You are going to have so much fun!

Did I miss something about the hermit crabs??!!

They didn't last but a month. :sad2:

We've had quite a few of those hermit crabs die on us. Sons all had to have a crab when they were growing up. Those critters are just plain ugly when coming out of their shell!

That was Chelsea's feeling, too, but Connor and I thought they were kind of cute.

Love the history stuff, visits to old forts & houses are what we do. We get to partcipate in activities for the public at those types of places.

We were hoping to stay around until they fired the cannons, but it was just too hot.

Tybee is such a lovely place, I want to go there, but I also want more Disney time!:lovestruc

Me too on both!!!

I was totally a complaining-during-the-cultural-bits-of-the-vacation teenager too...hey, to a teenager, the beach is just much more instant-gratification fun!

Tybee looks like such a fun place! :goodvibes

Tybee was the perfect beach town for us!

I know I complained about having to do things I didn't want to while on vacation. I was trying to plan all the days at a young age!

The fort looks like a lot of fun. We didn't have time to do it when we were there. Sure wish we had.

I just love the spanish moss! Makes me wish I was there right now.

So glad you had a great time at Tybee. Really enjoyed the report.

Thanks, Erika! Spanish moss always makes me homesick for Charleston.

What a great time you had at Tybee!! I'm sure the kids had a blast (even Chelsea at the fort! :) ). What a cool place!!!

One day she will appreciate the experience.

Your paint colors are CUTE - I love them! Isn't it amazing how a little paint spices up a room?

It's like having a brand new house -- almost!

Have a super day!!

You too Katie!

Oh poor Chelsea. She must have been bored out of her mind. :lmao: Morghan would have complained just as loudly.

I wouldn't mind so much if she suffered in silence. LOL!

We have hermit crabs too. We're up to three but have had to replace two. I think they are ugly but the kids love 'em! :thumbsup2

How long did the first two last?

What a great relaxing vacation you had. Lots of memories. :goodvibes

It was just the kind of vacation we all wanted last summer.

I am so sorry to be catching up without pictures, but I honestly can't wait to see that Spanish moss in 3 weeks :woohoo: and I am really looking forward to learning all about Savannah's history. I think I need waaaaaaaaaaay more than one day to visit. I would love to see Tybee Island someday.

I am so excited for your trip, Mary Ellen! I just know you are going to get some stunning pictures! :thumbsup2

We have decided to see Charleston on our return trip home, so I am looking forward to that as well. Thank you for all your wonderful tips. I have them all written down.

You are very welcome! :goodvibes

Loved your Tybee Island report and I can't wait to hear what's on the upcoming trip agenda!

Lots of ideas are swirling for the next trip!

I like these! Very nice!

Thank you! :goodvibes

I love all the historical stuff too. I would have enjoyed that fort. We have a fort near here too and it is a pretty neat place. Chelsea will come around some day and realize that it's cool to be a history nerd.

Hopefully!

So sorry to hear about your crabs. They do tend to live very short lives, don't they. :sad2:

It was sad. Connor was crushed by it.

So what are your next vacation plans? I say Charles and Chelsea got their year off from Disney so it should be back to the magic! :thumbsup2

I have some ideas in mind. ;)

:rotfl:

Kendall would have been the same way. Or maybe not. Could be the silent treatment with simultaneous texting and eye rolling.

The silent treatment with texting I can handle -- I think that is why Chelsea gets so vocal. :sad2:

You did get a bit crispy!

I knew better, too. I did such a good job keeping the kids from burning that week, and then on the last day, I forget myself.

Hi Jackie...

the day at the fort sounds cool to me...sorry Chelsea didn't think so ;) the end of your trip sounded wonderful...good food, sun, sand and who cdoesn't get sunburn at the beach

that is freaky and sad about Ponce and Mickey...cool shells, never seen them like that before. Hope you can find some of those souvies to show us :thumbsup2

Thanks, Julie! It was a great end to a great trip! I wandered around the house snapping pictures this weekend.

I was Chelsea on our family trip in Canada...oh my poor parents. There is a lovely picture of me that says it all. Someday, she will have a payback...

There are pictures of me like that as well. LOL!

Trucker hat and Vera Bradley- NOW THAT'S A STATEMENT... you are a good mom. :goodvibes... She will laugh at herself with the trucker hat someday, but the memory of being able to get it will be special.

Chelsea definitely has a style all her own.

(You should see my daughter's new adidas...DC meets Clown colors- we have DC's too...awful. Her leg is the size of my arm and she wears a women's 6...)

Oh my! Chelsea is just now wearing a size six.

:rotfl2: and lucky for everyone, those rooms look like they had fantastic acoustics! :headache:

Oh yes, they did.

Sounds like a lovely way to spend your last 2 days! What a perfect beach vacation!!!

We loved it!!!

What a great trip Jackie!! I still say I want to vacay with your family!!! I love historical sites too and that is why I had the best time this weekend in DC!! What a great city!!!!!

Do we get some pics from your DC trip? Please? :flower3:

Love the beach and was so glad you had time to relax and enjoy the sights!! Tybee is definitely on must do list someday!!!!!!!

I have no doubt we will be back at some point!

Fish Camp Cottage, looks like a perfect location for a beach vacation! I think you scored big time for your family this past summer...

I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Connor is one lucky kid to be able to feed those gators! That looks like so much fun and I would have been there next to him, pole in hand!

It was funny to see how fast they would move when they spotted that meat.

Next summer I hope we can take a detour over and see Savannah on our way to Disney when we go through Georgia. I really enjoy history too!

You would love Savannah!

Can't wait to see the souvies!

Coming right up! :thumbsup2

This weekend I went around the house to take pictures of all the souvenirs I could find.

We all got t-shirts -- Charles actually came home with two and a hat, and Chelsea got three t-shirts and THAT hat -- but I just didn’t feel like pulling those out.

Anyway, here is the majority of what we came home with from Tybee Island.

Magnets for the fridge.

002.jpg

003.jpg

I also bought a car sticker like the above magnet that is on the back window of the van.

Charles liked all the wooden signs we saw around the shops, so he picked out these two.

006.jpg

008.jpg

Connor picked out a crab sign for his room.

007.jpg

Christmas ornaments.

013.jpg

014.jpg

Charles drinks his morning coffee out of this mug the majority of the time.

001.jpg

Seaside Sisters had the most amazing selection of souvenirs. That’s where I spent most of my money. I bought the blue magnet there as well as a few other things…

Bella and Nala were in love with these Beach Bum biscuits. Since they were “gourmet” treats, they only got one a night, but when any of us said, “Who wants a Beach Bum biscuit?” they would both come running, sit, and wag their tales like crazy. They loved them!

012.jpg

Seaside Sisters also had the cutest vintage-looking postcards. As you can see, I framed them all.

004.jpg

005.jpg

011.jpg

The last two things were my “splurges.”

A signed copy of Mary Kay Andrew’s book Summer Rental. (The store actually had to mail this to me since the book wasn’t released until the week after our trip.)

009.jpg

010.jpg

My palmetto tree bracelet. Love it!

001-1.jpg

So, those are the majority of our souvenirs aside from assorted seashells and some Civil War replica bullets that Connor picked out at Fort Pulaski.

UP NEXT: Where to next?

What cute souvies.

I know how you feel about that hat. I am sure I probably bought something similar and my parents cringed. :lmao:

I wonder where you are going next?:rolleyes1 Can't wait to hear all about it.

Old report is finished up and new report is started. Link is in my siggie.

I am a bit behind, but I love all of those souvenirs. Seems like your whole house is now decorated Tybee-style! I love the bracelet.

Love the bracelet that you got. And how cool to get an autographed copy of the book.

I really like the post cards that you framed and I think it's so cool that Charles picked out two wall hangings!
Don't leave us hanging too long on the plans for the next trip!

I love your vintage postcards! They are so adorable, I am such a sucker for vintage postcards and pictures. :goodvibes

I read Summer Rental this summer, it was very good. I actually just brought it to my Mom for her to read yesterday.

On our family Christmas tree we have a starfish ornament from Florida that is dressed as a snowman, it is VERY cute. I love your Santa.

I thought of you this week....the other day I saw a girl about Chelsea's age with one of those spray tshirts and I just chuckled to myself. :rotfl2:

Fabulous souvies!!!! I love the wooden signs and the vintage postcards!!!

I love all of your souvenirs. The vintage postcards are great. And the bracelet is so cute.

Your Tybee vacation sounds like heaven! I love the cottage and how serene everything looks.

Can't wait to hear about next summer's plans. popcorn::

These are some great souvenirs! Love them! I like the signs, the santa ornament! TOO cute!! and your bracelet is nifty!!!! :goodvibes

Can't wait to hear what you have up your sleeve now...

How is your degree coming along??!! :surfweb:

What fun souvenirs! I love the postcards; what a great idea to frame them! I'm buying a new house in Feb/March next year and since I'll have more beds & baths, I'd love to do a beach-themed one. :)

I bought my mom a Santa ornament that looks just like that one, only I got it in Hawaii...

Love the vintage postcards, what a cute idea to frame them! And your bracelet is very pretty :goodvibes

I love the souvenirs Jackie. I also always get ornaments, wherever I may go. It's fun to pull those out at Christmas time and reflect back on your fun vacation. :goodvibes

I love all of your souvies! Love that old time beach stuff..such a super cute idea with the postcards and wood signs, they all look amazing!!:thumbsup2
