We were there last week (came home today :() and we tried to ride POTC 3 times, standing in line each time, only for it to break down each time. Yesterday, we were there and were going to be the next group in and it broke down and then the lights went out in the main loading area. Does it ever work?

Anyways, it was a great vacation. Thanks to all the DISboarders for their advice.

Sorry to hear that.

That's funny though...of all the attractions we've experienced having delays, POTC was never one of them.

Guess the CMs forgot to say good morning/goodnight to George! Spooky happenings at WDW!

To answer your question though, I think it must break down fairly often...we were there a week last trip and that was the only ride we encountered that had technical difficulties.

Weird, frequent the parks dozens of times each month and always ride POTC and have never ever had it break down. We must either be lucky or a few people on here unlucky :)

In all my years at WDW, I never experienced Pirates broken down until this trip last week. There was one more group ahead of me to load when it all just stopped. It was down for about 15 minutes and then started up again.

I guess there is a first for everything.

Darn missed my chance at a free day at Disney because I was totally traumatized by the delay and it ruined, ruined my vacation. I was bummed. Why didn't I go to guest services and complain. Missed my big chance.

More likely its because of misbehavior halting the ride. Flash photos, standing etc.... You've heard it all before.

I've also never been on POTC when it broke down - sounds like you had really bad timing or luck.

Whoa. If they stopped the ride because of standing, etc, then why did the lights go out. They were out in the main area for about 2 minutes until Cast Members came rushing in with flashlights, and then it returned.

I don't know if it makes any difference, but one of them was during MNSSHP

I guess I have just had bad luck when it come to this ride because it always seems to be breaking down during our trips, including in 2007 when we were at MNSSHP and we were stuck on the ride for 90 minutes before they evacuated us. Said the reason it took so long was something with the exit being located by the parade storage. It was an awful experience.

We rode it 4 times last week, different days and times, with no problems. Sounds like you just had bad luck. We were heading into the line on Thursday and people were walking out saying that it was down, but we went in anyway and it was working fine. I also spoke to George on the way out! ;)

everytime we have been on potc it has stopped for a min.or 2.Figured it was unloading problems,no problem. But 90 min. WOW looks like that would cause restroom problems for some??
what do people do stuck on rides for that long? nap, talk, read a book if you have one.90 min is a long time .

Never had any problems except for once when they turned the lights on and scolded people for taking flash photos.

I've been going to WDW since 1971. I've never had it break down for any length of time.

When we were there in March, it broke down twice. The CM at the entrance shared with us that the rides breaks down more frequently ever since the refurb (when Johnny Depp was added). He mentioned something about a contract between Disney and Johnny that requires the Jack Sparrow figures to be functioning properly at all times. I have no idea if this is true, but it is an interesting tale!

Hmm. that's interesting. In all my years of living in FL with an AP, and POTC being my favorite attraction, I can't remember it ever going down while riding it... Now, on occasion, it will stop for a few minutes, usually to allow loading and unloading of wheelchair guests and the like, but never have it just NOT be working...verrrrry interesting.

We were there for two weeks last summer and spent 6 days in the Magic Kingdom. Everyday we tried to ride POTC multiple times throughout the day and it was ALWAYS down. We finally got to ride it on our last day which was awesome because it is my son's favorite ride.
