I know stupid question, but do you pay sales tax on clothing or shoes in PA?
We are planning a trip to Gettysburg in a few weeks and thought we would go to the outlet stores.

Thanks
Lisa

There is no tax on regular clothing, but there is on formal wear or costumes. Shoes are also not taxable.

Have fun in Gettysburg.

thanks so much!
We will take a little extra to do some shopping!

Non-essential clothing like skiwear, swimwear are taxed (6%) in PA. Outerwear and essential clothing, shoes and accessories are not.

Thanks! My DH needs some new stuff as well as the kids. We will be staying near the Gettysburg outlet, so why not get it then and save some money?

For anyone else going to PA, there are certain areas that have additional sales tax (but not on clothing.) For instance, the sales tax in Allegheny County (Pittsburgh) is actually 7% (6% state and 1% regional)

I beleive there is tax on clothing items above a certain amount- like any item over $100.00 is taxed- is that right?

No. They do tax luxury clothing items such as fur coats though

Being from California, I find it quite odd that clothing is not taxed, here everything is taxed, expect food/groceries.
