Does Online Check in Affect Chance of Magical Upgrade?

Hi all!

I'm thinking one of the very bestest and fun things to happen would be to get unexpectedly upgraded upon arriving at one's resort.

However, would doing an online check-in make it less likely due to reduced one-on-one time with the check-in person at the desk?

The one and only time I have been upgraded was at a Ritz Carlton and it was because we had such fun talking and chatting with the desk gal. She told us we had been the kindest and most fun check in folks and she wanted to do something for us.

I'm curious if our booking through Travelocity will affect our chances too. Thoughts?

Whether you do online check in or not has zero affect on getting an upgrade. You still have face to face chat with the CM when you do online check in. You can chat as much as you want. They won't hurry you along.

We've done online check-in for the last few trips. One upgrade we got was from standard to preferred at AS Sports. And I believe we were upgraded from standard RR at POR to a Garden View in January. The nice thing for us each time was being able to get into our room after we checked in.

With the magic bands I read there will not be face to face. If the bands are mailed to you before your trip they just txt you when your room is ready and you don't need to checkin at all when you get there.

I agree with the pp.....online check has no effect on an upgrade nor does booking through some place other than Disney. With that said, upgrades are usually given for reasons such as maintenance issues, overbooking, etc. and are not as common as they appear to be here on the boards. But there's no harm in hoping one will happen . Have a great trip.

On line check in does not affect your chances. We always use on line check in and most times we do not receive an upgrade (and would not expect one as they are not very common)...but, on our visit to YC in April, we did get a great upgrade and were also chosen as Family of the Day, on-line check in and all.

OLCI just doesn't factor at all.
