Does my toddler need a magic band?

We are not staying on the property and will be getting paper tickets through AAA but I would like to get magic bands. My son is 2.5 and will be going for free. I know he doesn't need a ticket but is there any advantage to him having a magic band, like can I put our info on it in case something happens?

No. But he might feel left out if everyone else has one and he doesn't

This. My DS2 always wants to wear his magic band, and sometimes he wants to scan it at the FastPass entrance like everyone else (doesn't do anything, but again, it's so he doesn't feel left out).

Do you have any other children getting magic bands? If so, I would definitely get one for him just to avoid any meltdowns.

Anyone under 3 who does not need a ticket does not "need" a magic band. Yes, I think many toddlers will want one if everyone else has them. It will not help them if they get lost. And they shouldn't need it for Photopass as I assume they will be with someone who does either have a band or photopass card.

We took the kids when my son was just under 3. We stayed on property so he got a magic band and he scanned it EVERY where that we went. He got really upset when he didn't get to scan it

I've heard of people writing a name and phone number on the forearm of small children in case they become separated. You could use a dog tag like the military if you think he would keep the chain on his neck or use a sharpie on his arm if you are concerned. It will wear off eventually but should last through the trip to insure you will be contacted if you are separated.

I say it depends on the child. If you think he would wear it and feel left out if he didn't get one then maybe get him one. When we took my ds at age 3 he had to have one for park admission but refused to wear it. My Dh ended up having to carry it around in his pocket. It can go either way with kids at that age.

That's exactly what I was told when I brought my toddler.

To add some more... Go to a pet store and get animal id (much cheaper than dog tags), there is a website that will make temporary tattoos with parents name and numbers, also if you choose to get w magic band consider a single color than you can again get a custom skin/sticker with name and number to call. And I am not sure WDW has them but DL has machines that will make dog tag style trinkets with whatever you want engraved on them. They come in different sizes and with different characters on one side. You can even add a necklace or a keychain. The cost is per line of added info plus a base of I think $5 when I did it.
