I received my cruise docs. yesterday for a 3 day cruise :goodvibes It recommended a suitcoat for dinner at Tritons for the men. My 7 year old only has nice button down shirts. Do I need to go buy one for him? :confused3

No, he will be fine in a nice dress shirt and dress pants. My DS wore khakis and a button up shirt with a tie (he loves wearing a tie). It seems like most boys(big and little) were in polo type shirts.

We got little sport jackets for DGSs. They love to dress up. There are ways to get them inexpensively. I picked some up on sale at Walmart after Easter (or after Christmas works too). Sears and Penneys also usually have some on clearance at that time. I also got one of them at a Goodwill store for just a couple of bucks plus dry cleaning, of course. Kids wear that type of clothes just a few times before they outgrow them, so you can find some very nice ones at the second hand/consignment stores.

So, I would say, if he wants to dress up with jacket you can do it inexpensively, but if he doesn't he could just do the slacks and nice shirt and still fit right in.

Suitcoats would never have fit in our luggage. My 3 boys wore khakis, button down shirts and ties. They looked adorable, oh, excuse me--handsome :)
There were some kids in suit coats--it usually seemed to depend on what their parents were wearing.
Either would be perfectly acceptable. It is really a matter of preference.
