Does MS frown on this?

Making reservations at 11 months to secure a resort and switching at 7 months? Do they keep track of how many times you do this?

I dont think so, at least when I have done it (just once) the person I dealt with was very friendly. I called and asked about availability at the BWV, and what I asked for was available. I then told MS rep that I wanted to cancel an existing reservation and switch to BWV's. MS rep gave no hint that they would be annoyed by this, and everything was done within minutes.

You can't switch. You cancel and book new. You my find that new is not available. MS doesn't care if you do this so they don't keep track.

I think there is plenty of risk with this if you're booking for Christmas, Thanksgiving, F&W, or any other holidays or special events, but if the reservation is in an easy to secure resort and villa size (1 or 2 bedroom) I wouldn't think there would be a problem. With these factors, it would just seem easier to me to book at 7 months because you're still on the same playing field as everyone else who owns at another resort than where you are booking

I used a poor choice of words with "switch". I did mean cancel and book new at another resort.

They better not care because I have done it a few times.

The thing to do is have them check availability first before you cancel the current reservations.

What I have done in the past was, ask for what I wanted. If available ask them to get new and cancel old. If not available, do waitlist. This was explained as how to do 7 months at DVC busy times. Had it explained by our guide and Member Services.

They actually encourage it. Just be careful with those cancellations and bookings in busy seasons. People have been known to lose a reservation in the moments it takes a CM to cancel one and book another thanks to our new (annoying) automatic wait lists. But a good CM should be able to keep a potential booking on hold long enough to get it right. Make sure you have confirmed all the details before you authorize that cancellation.

In my case, I'm holding onto some extra points this use year so I can secure two of three nights at the 7 month mark and then cancel when I get to the third night.

I want to cancel SSR and book OKW at 7 months for mid-November, so I'm hoping I won't have a problem.:)

We cancelled and re-booked for our trip to BCV on March 7 to 15 four times. We booked SSR in April 2007 for seven nights. DW then booked OKW at the 7month mark. Next day we moved to BCV for 7 nights with a wait list at BWV for a standard view studio. The room did not come through at BWV fast enough for DW so she just cancelled it. Two weeks ago, we added another night at BCV on the front end. Making all of these changes was not an issue. Just make sure you have that ressie at the 11 month mark and you will be able to shop around for what you like.

I like to book 11 months out, but its been my experience that things change. I found myself saying "I'm sorry" to the MS this morning because of the changes that I had to make. MS person asked why I was saying that. So, I suppose it is just part of the DVC experience, book and change sometimes. Between yesterday and today, I cancelled 2 rooms, added a night for a DS, which needed new ressie number, and booked a new ressie all for June.
