Does Mousekeeping Clean in a special way when there is a stomach virus on the rampage

The only thing I do differently now is not use the glasses in the hotel room. After watching the expose of how many hotels clean those glasses I keep mine from room service while I am there and use that. I also pack a few foam cups in my suitcase now.

I told DH about not drinking out of the glasses but he will still use them! He never gets sick though! :confused3
Apparently drinking out of possibly unwashed hotel glasses gives you an iron stomach!

I never got sick either. But it was gross watching the lady flush the toilet with gloves on and come out and clean the glass. Or the ones where they sprayed some type of liquid on the glass.

Safetymom,

I saw the same show!! :scared1: It has been on our local news.

My husband and I usually just bring plastic cups.

Also, regarding the coffee makers in the rooms. Did you ever really look at them. The water reservoir is usually so gross. Sometimes has mold in it because they close the back lid.

Before I use the coffee maker, I usually give it a thorough washing, inside and out!! Then, I run a batch of just water through.

We went to Disney World a couple of weeks ago, Nov. 16th-23rd. Our daughter got sick on the 18th (Sun) and 19th (Monday- her 6th birthday) and threw up a total of 14 times on Sunday and seven times on Monday. Then on Tuesday, our 3 year old son caught it. He threw up 22 times that day. Wednesday morning he was still in bed so we called downstairs from the CR and asked where the nearest walk-in clinic was. The cm connected me with a service and the secretary said the doctors come to the rooms there. By about 11:00 that morning, the doctor showed up and said we needed to go to the ER at Celebration Hospital. He had IV's all day and we got back to the room around 6:45 that evening. Within thirty minutes, our 14 year old son came down with it and thirty minutes later, I came down with it. Mine and my sons only lasted throughout the night. We ended up calling Continental and got a flight out Thanksgiving Day instead of Friday. We took precautionary measures and used Lysol and Clorox wipes when we first got to the room. We also made sure we washed our hands more than usual. We were so disappointed, as we booked our trip July 4th and waited so long for the time to come. Then, the last five days of our trip were spent in the hotel room. We only got to do the Magic Kingdom the first two days there. We never got a chance to go to the other parks. Disney did change our tickets to where they never expire, at no expense to us. The CR also credited us for the last night that was booked. We were on the meal plan and didn't use hardly any of them, but they said they couldn't do anything about it. I don't know if housekeeping was going to do anything differently when cleaning the room. They were very aware that we had very sick kids in the room.

Oh Soccer mom-that is so awful for your family.:sad1: I really can sympathize with you. Really puts things in perspective, like trips that I considered "ruined" because of rain, or my kids acting up.

I just wanted to say that on our last trip mousekeeping was horrible (Poly stay) The hotel itself was clean, but the room was not cleaned to my liking (or anywhere near it) . We tipped the first few days ($10) and then not for the last few b/c I wanted mousekeeping to know that the job wasn't up to par. Syrup from breakfast left on the table for two days before I cleaned it. They were definately just making the beds and replacing towels & toilet paper. That's about it.

Don't count on anything being disinfected whatsoever!

Just to put it in perspective - it's not just WDW where stomach flu has been going around. My kids, myself, my nieces and my SIL all had stomach flu over the last few weeks, and none of us have been anywhere near Florida. All of the local schools seem to be going through it recently...

I had this stomach flu last spring, weeks before leaving for Disney. Within the first few moments of feeling bad, I was throwing up and within five hours had to be taken to the ER where they ran two bags of fluids in me (after searching and poking diligently for a vein). I was down for 3 days after that.

End of May, DD11 and I go to Disney. Our 3rd night, we had dinner at Boma and she drank 3 glasses of the jungle juice. She had a bit of an upset stomach the next day and I chalked it up to that. I kept giving her some immodium, but it didn't seem to help. So Thursday morning (Day 5) she just didn't feel like getting up early. I gave her Pepto but she threw it up in the bus line. I had wipes in my fanny pack, but while trying to comfort her, a lady beside us whipped one right out and came over to us to help. So, we canceled lunch at CP and slept in for a few more hours. She then started feeling better and I just assumed the juice, and food had not set well with her, but now consider it could have been a mild stomach virus. But we didn't miss much b/c we rescheduled bfast at CP and just didn't get to go to the waterpark that day. Which was a free add on for us. We went to dinner that night at Coral Reef and she perked right up and that became her fav restaurant. So, I'll never know if she got sick or just didn't agree with the Boma food, even though she loved it while we were there.

On our check-out day at VWL last January, my then 5 yr old grandson got sick right as we were leaving WL. All of our luggage was being taken to our rental car when all of sudden (in the lobby no less) he began throwing up. My daughter quickly picked him up and literally ran to the restroom off the lobby with him. I hurried out to the car where my DH and two sons were loading the bags to get some clean clothes for him and my daughter and while on my way there asked a CM to please call someone from housekeeping because my grandson had been sick. Ranger Stan was there and obviously had seen the whole thing because he said someone is already on the way. Within minutes someone was there with a bucket, mop and disinfectant mopping the floor.

of course there is!! I was wondering when you were going to come join us! :rotfl:

:woohoo: I'm small...don't take up too much space!

I'll bring my dirty, germ infested Lazy-boy to sit in, cause it's extra comfy and warm after the cats sleep in it. Thank you for letting me join your group.

Ya know those stomach viruses can lie dormant in your system for several days before effecting you, so you can't blame Disney. Also, may germs die as son as they are expose to the air anyway. I have been to Disney 4 times in the last 2 years and only went home sick once, but I brought that case of allergies with me and it just escalated because I pushed myself and didn't rest much. Usually if I am sick (cold), it is usually because of the change in season, that really messes up my allergies.

I'm afraid I have to agree with that! At work we have been playing "pass around the stomach flu". With some "lets run to the bathroom" as a side game.

I feel so bad for everyone who has gotten sick at Disney. I can only imagine how dissappointed you all are!::guilty:

:goodvibes Thank goodness we didn't get anything on our trip but of course we all had the 24 hour stomach virus before we left. Maybe that was a good thing. I must say that I was disappointed in mousekeeping at CSR - I loved the resort. Mousekeeping left water in our ice bucket for 2 days before I dumped it never did get a new plastic bag. They never restocked our coffee the entire 6 night stay. We had an extra blanket we were using and it by day 3 they didn't even fold it it was just wadded up in a big pile on the bed. By the way we always leave mousekeeping a tip but after day 3 I stopped. No towel animal and the room was not very clean at all - I kind of doubt they would have done a better job if one of us had been sick. :confused3

Hey, room for me too?? I walk around the room in my bare feet, sit on the spread. I do wipe down the remote but that's about it. And I do tend to wash my hands a bit more when in the parks..have you seen where some of those kids put their fingers before grabbing the railings???? Ewwwww. But, I'm pretty happy to just wash the hands during the day. We do need some of those bacteria. Of course...I'll be arriving next week, probably just in time to get a mutated bug in my system.
But sanitize my room? I don't think so.

That virus isn't exclusive to WDW. About half our corporate staff and their families came down with it last week and through the holiday weekend. Everyone from 3-month-old infants to the grandparents! Not fun!

Can you squeeze one more on that couch? I can even sit on one of the arms! *LOL*

I take reasonable precautions, but don't try to disinfect my room. I've gotten sick at WDW once--holidays in 2004 toward the end of my trip. I was shopping at DTD and there were so many people coughing and sneezing in the stores--and in my face--that it would have been even more amazing if I hadn't gotten sick!

All the disinfectant and anti-bacterial stuff in the world isn't going to eliminate the airborne viruses and bacteria! Wish they could, though! :)

Hi
I always make sure I pass around the purell after touching menus in the restaurants. I also bring wipes with me to wipe off the remote control, toilet handle and stuff like that. I don't think I'll ever drink out of a resort room glass again after reading some of these posts. I'll bring plastic cups. I hope our room at CSR is clean. We'll be there in 10 days. Our room at Pop has always been really clean. (Maybe we were just lucky).

My biggest fear is that we all get sick like that...(we were all sick with the stomach flu right BEFORE our trip last year.)

Would travel insurance cover the trip if you got so sick?

Oh, and we are not a germ-a-phobe family either. My SIL is terrible... sanitizing everything all the time. Her kids are the sickest I know! Let the natural flora do it's job and keep the bad bacteria away.

In 2004 I got SO sick on our honeymoon. I didnt find out until I got back that I had bronchitis, a sinus infection, and the stomach flu. I spent pretty much the entire time in the room. Then when it was FINALLY time to go home, a hurricane hit and we got stuck there for four more days. I was sooooo miserable.

We were at Disney in September, and I did the whole lysol the door knobs, phone, and remote. My hubby and I took airborne before we got on the plane. Im not a big medication person, but considering how sick I was on our honeymoon, my doc even prescribed me antibiotics to take with me incase I got sick. I was NOT getting sick at Disney again! The trip was great- until the flight home. This poor miserable girl, probably about 14 was sitting next to me and she was vomiting. "Oh she's just airsick" the family said, and Im thinking "we havent even pulled away from the airport! " Sure enough, the next day, I had to full blown stomach virus.

ha ok I think what grosses me out the most about all this stomach virus stuff is the fact that you usually get it from comming in contact with fecal matter. What does that tell you about how well other people are washing thier and thier kids hands??? I'll tell you one thing Disney should have hand washing watchers in the restrooms (joke) well maybe not lol.

Anyhow I'll be doing my usual super sanatizing when I get to my room, I spray tub and sink with lysol or bleach sanatizing spray wichever I find when I hit target in orlando I also spray all bathroom surfaces with the same spray including the floor I just use bath towel to wipe it down after it sits for its required minute or so. I then use sanatizing wipes on all handles countertops etc and I do baggy the remote though usually I dont even need to touch it since I can use my ppc to bypass most remotes. I also bring my own pillow. and wash my own mugs.

Ok now Im kinda bugged out about the coffee maker even though I usually run a vinegar wash through it followed by 2 runs of hot water.

I am trully a bug a phobe is there is one but I manage to cross my fingers and have a good time while in disney.

ah sadly I think I'll be canceling my reservation for Boma's

I tried to find a couple of small samples of Can spray Lysol because it
does kill the stomach virius but couldn't find them for our trip
so I looked at a can and compared that to the disinfecting wipes
and the missing ingrediant in the wipes was alcohol.
So I brought the Lysol Wipes and Purell (which is mostly alcohol)
and put some Purell on the wipe and wiped down all of the
hard surfaces in the room.
Here's hoping you have a Healthy Trip Virius Free!!

The other day I found some small slim travel size cans of Lysol as I was checking out at Wal Mart. It was right behind me at the checkout aisle (across from the candy bars and beef jerky) with some other travel size stuff.
