Does it ruin the magic?

For anyone who has done the program, did it ruin the magic for you?

Just asking out of curiosity to pass the time. Waiting for Disney to post the schedule and everything is driving me a little crazy.

I think it just creates a different kind of magic. You get to be a part of making it that way for the guests and to me that is so much better. I also love knowing that I am a part of Walt's dream and even though Disney now is a very different company than it was back when he and Roy were in charge, it is still a cool thing to be a part of. The people I met and the things I got to experience because if the college program are so much more rewarding in the end.

Agree with the above statement. You do get to experience the "other side" so to speak. And it's a side that allows you to keep others in the world to keep experiencing.

I agree with the last two posters :-)

I loved visiting the parks as a guest before the CP, but after working as a cast member I enjoy it SO much more. Yes, you do see stuff that has the potential to "ruin the magic" but that statement means different things to different people.

I like to think of it as I got to be a part of creating the magic for the guests and when I think about how much work goes into one simple thing sometimes, I appreciate it even more. I appreciate the work of other cast members because I had friends in those roles and would tell me stories about their jobs and I've grown a new appreciation for what has to happen to create that magic.

The friendships I made, the things I got to experience and the memories I made are just a small part of creating such a different kind of magic for me. I'll never look at anything Disney in the same way I did before the CP, but truth be told, I wouldn't have it ANY other way. As corny as this may sound, the CP honestly changed my life for the better. :goodvibes

Nope, not at all. I love working at Disney. Being here has not ruined the magic for me. In fact, being a CM has made the magic stronger

Thanks for all the responses guys!
I really don't think that it will ruin the magic for me either..but I just wanted to hear it from some of you who have done the program and still love Disney. :)

Out of the hundreds of cast members I've known over the years, I've never heard of one who had the magic ruined simply by getting a job at Disney. That being said, the experience is RARELY just the way you thought it would be. Expect a little bit if disillusionment BUT expect a lot of increased 'magic'.

The disillusionment I speak of often comes from ghetto, run-down back stage cast member areas (breakrooms, etc.) and for me, a bunch of people who simply don't care about Disney, the parks, their jobs and kind of spit on your excitement and tell you "you are new, so that's why you are excited". These things were unexpected for me HOWEVER I had a GREAT experience on my College Programs and beyond.

I personally LOVE the behind-the-scenes stuff so my CP experience only made my personal magic all the better.

I agree, if anything it made it more magical for me! I was really worried about going in the tunnels and that ruining everything for me, but it dosent. Honestly being a cast member is something to be proud of, and even when your not on stage, in your costume, but playing in the parks, you find yourself getting into cast member mode, and helping out guests.

I completely agree. Yes, I have seen things I never would have imagined by being a CM, many of these things completely shocked me and I thought I would be scarred from :rotfl: I wouldn't say these things ruin the magic, just change the way you seen things in the parks. I'm a character attendant, and instead of the magic simply being me hanging out with characters all day, it becomes more about watching kids meeting the characters for the first time, and how I can make the experience even better and even more magical. I can't tell you how many times I have given people directions and such while not actually at work. THAT'S a part of the magic you can only experience from being a CM :)
