I read somewhere that it costs 5 dollars to park at Ft. Wilderness if you are not a guest. We have gone there many times just to eat, do mouse boats, etc and I don't ever remember having to pay to park. Is this true?????

No it does not cost to park. You can't park in the lot, next to check in, without a parking pass. You can park in the other lot which you enter to the east of the Fort Wilderness check in entrance

Ok, thank you! That's what I had originally thought, but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks again! :thumbsup2

The way we have gone to FW in the past required us to pass through a parking gate (I think intended for MK) where they wanted people to pay. Is there a better way to get there to avoid this?

Thanks.

If you enter through the MK parking entrance, just stay in the right hand lane, and tell the CM at the gate you are heading to FW. They will direct you on through, with no charge. :thumbsup2

good idea even if staying off site just tell them staying at fort wilderness, then park for free and take disney transportation anywhere from there!

You can avoid that MK gate. If your heading south on I-4 get off at the DTD and Epcot exit. Then take the exit ramp to DTD, instead of turning right to go to DTD stay going straight. You'll pass the Port Orleans hotels. WHen you get to the end of the road make a left and follow that road for a bit. Alittle bit after the golf coarse youll see a sign for FW with a parking lot, turn right to get into the lot and park.

Keep in mind usless you are staying a one of the Campsites Disney will not let you stay in the Parking lot at the front of the Campground overnight.

To get into the front gate at FW do you have to go through the Registration line, or can you by pass that too? We are going with another family in Feb and staying off property, and the other family is worried about parking everyday at the parks. Can you really park at FW and use the Disney Transportation? Great if we can, but I don't want to get there and then be told we can't. I remember when we did stay at FW all the cars and RV's parked there, we just figured it was an overflow lot.

The purpose of the lot is for several things:

  • Overflow FW parking
  • Parking while waiting to check in
  • Parking for folks who go down to FW activities (Pioneer Hall/Barn/camfire)
  • Folks visiting someone whois staying at FW

The lot is not a place to park to avoid the theme park lots. If folks start using this lot to avoid parking fees I'm sure security will begin to watch the lot more carefully. Disney has done this at other resort lots and shut them down completely.

This "overflow lot" only has about 100-150 spaces, so if folks start uisng it for reasons other then to visit FW it will quickly become apparent.
