Does it bug anyone else about Soarin' that it's located in Epcot?

I absolutely love Epcot. Love the whole idea of the "community of tomorrow" combined the cultures of the world showcase. I'm a science geek who's also a travel fanatic, so this park is tailor made for that.

So what does hang gliding in California have to do with either of those? I suppose it makes sense from an overall DW crowd management strategy, but from a theming strategy, I just don't see it.

I know I'll enjoy the ride itself when I try it, but to me it just doesn't fit in. :sad2:

And it was GREAT! A ride about the state of California in a themed park about California . . . now it's in Epcot. I think they should have done Soarin Over Florida. And you could smell the Oranges! That would be neat!!

Don't get me wrong, the ride itself looks great and I'm really looking forward to it. I just have trouble seeing how it fits in to Epcot's theme.

To me, they could have put it at MK or even MGM, where you could sort of see the "Hollywood California" connection. And lord knows that MGM could use some more rides.

They have many screens with trivia about the US and the mountains, trees, etc.as you walk through. I think it ties in very well with the Land. I can't picture it anywhere else at WDW.

Honestly, couldn't care less. I'm just happy it's there...

I agree with safetymom that it fits in the Land. It fits the educational and travel themes of Epcot. The trvia in the queue really goes well.

I agree with you about placement, I'm not sure it fits in Epcot but like safetymom said, I'm not sure where else it would fit except at the Land. With everything the show has in it with the beauty of California (although I wish it was about Florida) I just can't see it fitting in at any of the other parks either.

A very interesting question!!!

I've heard that they're using the California movie temporarily ...I heard that they're filming a "Soarin' Over the United States" movie.

For the 50th celebration thing they took a popular ride/show and brought it to WDW from other Disney Lands. Soarin from DL, the Stunt car show in MGM from Paris Disney, The Cinderella Celebration show from I cant remember in Magic Kingdom. Then they are building Everest in AK for next year. All that takes up a lot of room. I just am excited to see other attactions that I would not usually get to see. Except I do live by DisneyLand. Anyway I am looking forward to all of it, in 36 days Yeah!

That would be great. We loved riding on Soarin' last week at the PS preview, especially since DD11 has never been to CA.

I also think it fits the theming of The Land very well. Having been on the Florida preview, I am glad they did California..... we already see Florida all of the time, but to see the skiers, the waterfalls, the Golden Gate Bridge really took my breath away. Oh, and I LOVED the ending!!!!

Think of it this way, it doesn't belong in MGM, because its not movie related; it doesn't belong in AK, because it has nothing to do with animals; and MK is too classic disney to have a ride like that. Epcot seems like the right place to me when you think of the alternatives. The only place it would make more sense in is Disney Quest but that really isn't a Theme Park.

I had the same thought also about Soarin' being in Epcot but it fits the Land theme quite well. After reading on I think wdwmagic.com everything involved in filming Soarin' I can see why Disney wanted to use the movie at WDW. And, after driving through Florida for hours (including motoring along at 10 mph on the Interstates due to construction) to get to WDW some views of California make for a nice change of scenery.

Phrank

You DO smell the oranges, by the way! :goodvibes

We were there last week and were reading that for the 25th anniversary (2007)they are producing a new 'Soarin' movie that will be Soarin' over the WORLD, not just the USA...so I'm not sure what all will be included, but I'm quite sure it will be incredible...

They just have to figure out a way to give you a little ocean spray when they dip you down (if they can do it in the 3d movies...I KNOW they can do it here, too!)...

I have to agree that in The Land pavillion, it fits in just fine! It's a wonderful addition to Epcot, imo.

Epocot needed to add more rides, IMO... it's a nice alteranative to those who can't do Mission Space. ::yes::

I think it goes quite nice in ECPOT. After all they have places from all over the world, and a lot of people consider California either "out of this world" or a different universe all together! :teeth: (BTW all 3 of my kids are native Californians, so this is very tounge in cheek!, Hummm, in thinking about my kids, maybe they ARE aliens.... :flower: Joke!)

You smell oranges, and pine trees. It's a great ride. It fits in well with the entire "Land" pavilion theme. As you stand in line waiting, there are all kinds of facts about the planet's rain forests, highests mountains, ecology issues, etc. If you've ridden the ride "Living with the Land" and have read the quotes on the walls, this fits right in. I totally understand why the ride was placed exactly where it is. The entire FutureWorld part of Epcot is "science and nature". Personally, I think it only adds to the overall effect of Futureworld. Now, if they'd only re-open Wonders of Life Paviliion,....

I can see it at Epcot, absolutely! The only other place I could see Soarin' fitting would be the American Adventure pavilion, if the film was Soarin' over America. I do think it fits with the Land theme, but I hope there won't be too much crowding there, since there are already Living With the Land and The Circle of Life there.

I'm just concerned about it being in the Land. The Land used to be somewhat uncrowded and a nice getaway from the rest of Epcot. Now I think it will be overrun with the Soarin' crowds. The ride is great. We did it at Disneyland a few years ago.

The Soarin people will be in their own building. Only the entrance to Soarin is in the Land.
