to buy/rent cheap points? They don't look for points that are selling for less than $10 per point, but they come right out and ask to get points for $8 or less because they can't afford anything more.

I don't rent my points - not enough as it is, so I voted no.

If I did, it wouldn't bother me unless the request came from family or very good friends. But none of them would ask, LOL. They'd expect to pay the going rate. We don't charge anything to family if we issue the invitation.

I feel no obligation to fund anyone else's vacation, especially if they're strangers. If I ever decide to rent points, I'll post my terms clearly up front and just say "no, I'm sorry, my terms are firm" to anyone who asks.

Best wishes -

I don't rent my points, but I said yes, it would bother me if I had a comment like that. Negotiating is one thing, but to say they can't afford more is silly - then they should be looking for something cheaper.

Wouldn't bother me too much. I don't rent and don't really care what others want to pay. If they can't can't afford to go to WDW this year, they should save up and go next year. Or the year after...

we are too new and no one has asked....yet

We rented out some points recently, and there were several people who offered to pay $1 to $2 less than the $10 per point we were asking.

I responded to each by saying good luck to them and letting them know there were some DVC members desperate to sell points due to the expiration feature, but as for me I feel $10 is too low and would keep points for next year before selling them for less than $10. It rubbed me the wrong way at first but I can not blame them for asking (I bet hey got what they were looking for)

Yes, it's annoying--if you can't afford to pay $10, then you can't afford to go on vacation this year. Paying $8 rather than $10 usually amounts to less than $200, they just want an even better deal than they are already getting. I like a good deal as well as anyone else, but please, don't insult my intelligence by saying you can't afford $10, say you DON't WANT TO PAY $10, which is at least honest. :cold:

I don't have my own points yet, but I am a frequent renter. I expect to pay $10/point when I begin looking. If someone offers them for $9 or $9.50 I am thrilled.

I guess I have too much pride to ask for something to be priced down, when I realize just what a value I am getting! $99 - $110/night for a room that would cost me over $300/night cash. Some people just don't get it!

On the other hand if someone emails me and is asking $12 or $12.50/point, which I have seen here on these boards, I politely say that I am all set, as those $10/point offers are out there.

I understand and empathize with your frustration as owners who rent! I didn't vote, by the way, because I can't give an honest answer, since I don't have my points yet. Contract was fed-exed today (oops, that's for another thread).

I've never rented my points, and really don't hve any intention of doing so in the foreseeable future. However, it wouldn't bother me if folks asked to rent points cheaper, or even said they couldn't afford anything more. I'd simply say "No."

It's like when you have your own business and people ask you to discount your prices for them. They don't go into the grocery store or Target and make the same request, so why should they ask an individual???

I have never rented out my points so I voted no as well

I rented out some points from an add-on last year and had one person offer $1 less pp. That didn't bug me, I just told them the price was firm. I did vote yes in the poll though because poor-mouthing is a bit different than negotiating, IMO.

I voted yes, because I did rent points out a few months ago and because I was asking for more than $10 a point, I received some rather nasty comments.

I did succesfully rent my points out for what I was asking. It just seems to me that those looking for "cheap points" at 11 months can get a little righteous when it comes to "your" points. I make alot of sacrifices throughout the year to afford my points, so I dont feel obligated to give them away to anyone.

I have paid cash to stay at Beach Club for 2 nights because that is all I could afford and that was with the Shades of Green Military discount so I am not oblivious to the value of renting points.

well.....we have alot of points and we do rent in yrs when we have overflow or in yrs where we decide to go cruising instead of using DVC..........i treat everyone who inquires the same.........if they are looking for something below ten i tell them good luck.........most of my renters are repeaters and they know exactly how i do it and that i dont play games..........if they want to play games i let them but at 10 a point it is still a great deal...........and if they want a greater deal i tell them to go to universal on cash..........

What I find more annoying are the DVC members (there are two on the rent board right now), soliciting "distressed" or expiring points, offering $6-8 pp, only to turn around and make reservations, and then post them for $12-15 per point.

The one member asked about buying poinits from us at one time, explaining that she had started a business in her area setting up Disney vacations. She went on to say that she had to have a price less than $10 pp, so that her "clients" could afford it. Now she is on the board soliciting more than 400 points, wanting them for bargain prices.

The guy from maryland does the same thing. Buys distressed or otherwise very low priced points, rents prime dates with them, and then offers them for sale at a huge profit. One reservation he had on the baord was at over $17 pp.

So mad about the above post that I'm deleting my response....

I'll just have to skip this thread for my sanity....

Sorry, Goldi

Is it annoying? yes.
Does it bother me, personally? no.

But lots of ppl want something for nothing. I mean, these folks who are annoyed that the airlines are charging top dollar for school vacation weeks, protesting, "but I have never paid more than $200..." well yeah, you have enjoyed the largesse of the airlines and their fare sales, but let's get real: these seats will sell to someone. As for ppl offering lowball bids on the Rent/Trade board: same thing. Mainly annoying. But there are lots of dummies out there, and many normally intelligent ppl who for some reason might feel entitled to a bargain (at someone else's expense no less).

I just rented 140pts out for $9.50pp, but wouldn't go any lower than that. I think anywhere close to $10pp is fair. What annoys me more than anything is family or friends who goe on the trips with us and think that the rooms are free because it is already paid. The worst was a former friend who was put out when we asked them to pay $300 for 5 nights in a grand villa. She thought it should be free and that we should have bought them passes to the park too. For that reason I don't rent out to friends anymore, just on the disboards.
