Does FOP seat drop?

I hate to post another flight of passage question. But I'm on the fence on if my son 6 and me (scared of All ride) should dare trying this one. So I figure I can close my eyes at the drops. And there will just be wind and a slight rocking of the seat. But I'm now being told the bicycle physically drops 5 to 10 feet. Something about an armature in the floor that moves the bicycle. Any truth to this??? Thanks

It may drop a little, but certainly not 5 to 10 feet. It really just rocks you around and leans you in the direction of the on-screen motion. I can't recall anything that feels like a significant drop. The motion is generally very smooth.

Ok thank you. I saw a post on here a few weeks ago about this , but I couldn't find it again to see what people said. Now that my trip is a few days away, I wanted an answer. As some one just back told me they thought it moved. Again thanks

To clarify, it does move some, and may even make a vertical move downward, but it certainly doesn't amount to 5-10 feet worth of dropping. The seat does move a lot more than Soarin' does and is more like a ride on Star Tours, but less jerky.

It leans over about 2 feet. And it doesn't even feel that far. It feels like it just tilts

My 8 year-old DD is a total ride chicken and she absolutely loved FOP! So much that she wanted to get up at 6:00AM for EMH just to ride it again. It's a great ride and not scary at all.

If you go way back I was probably driving everyone nuts trying to get an explanation on this ride due to my DS (disabled) extreme fear of heights. He does Soarin' but I hate it for the height factor. But he can panic just walking hotel balcony or clear elevator. No one could really explain it how I needed. I looked at photos and began messaging some who rode it. We went to the AP Preview, both DS1 DS2 and I. We didn't know what to do if they only were letting us ride once so I kept exploring. I was a wreck because there was the thought the "vehicle" hung over the edge, moved out over the edge etc. Could he see that over the edge, would he freak out and try to climb out, how does the wall disappear, are you flung out there, would there be space at the floor to see out? We sat on either side ready to fight him to stay put.

Don't worry! DS absolutely LOVED it, so mesmerized by the movie he didn't even look around. But first ride I held his hand on the "handlebar" the whole time, looked around the whole time (so second time I was surprised by parts of movie I missed) and was very in tune to the movement. Now I'll try to explain ...

- You sit, are locked in (explained plenty) - 3d glasses
- Once this happens you really are not in a position to look much around to the floor on either side and they are tight together
- The room is fairly dark with lots going on the flat part of your "dashboard" you see your face morphing to avatar
- It's very interesting to DS to watch
- Suddenly some lights on your dash start flashing to trick your eyes so
- They don't see as the "wall" aka garage door in front of you goes up and over your head
- The screen is all twinkling kind of lights so your eyes are trying to adjust
- Your VEHICLE leans left and right independently of each other
- The FLOOR goes up down and tilts forward so that gives you the other movement
- If you look behind you the floor breaks from the wall and when it goes down, about a 2 foot gap
- You never "leave the floor" "fly out into the open space" "able to look down" - you feel very secure
- If you lean and look up/left/right you can see the other floors, other vehicles
- You/he will likely be loving the movie and never look out and around
- It's not like Soarin' where the others are all so blatant in front or next to you
- You are never really able to see down because the gaps are slight, so no fear of falling off or forward
- The screen wraps all the way back to seating so you feel like you are IN the movie and lose sight of transition
- At end the garage door comes back down before they let you get up.

DS has been on several times now and so comfortable
(I mean he has HUGE FEARS that transition to panic attacks)
he rides not holding on and last time did the motion with body to try to get it go faster.

SO bicycle DOES NOT DROP 5-10 feet, it drops no where since it's attached to the floor.

It leans and floor moves and the combo probably tricks folks into thinking that.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I also have an extreme fear of heights. And I will also have a panic attack. Now, I am in a position that I will try to hold it in, and I will close my eyes, try to control my breathing and cry. Sometimes you can hear me praying, under my breath.

I go back and forth between wanting to try it and just passing on it. The problem with trying it, is that I could end up crying enough that I will be upset for a few hours. So it isn't a one and done. But I hate to miss it.

Your explanation helped.

I can't tell you how afraid I was to take him on it. He's super strong and double jointed and almost got himself out of RnR restraints during a panic attack. His panic attacks are very physical, screams and if bad enough pass out. It took years of lower level, holding tight and meds for Soarin' and now he loves it ......... and I am white knuckle ready to throw up. At this point, if no one is with us I tell him it's broken and won't go on it. (Helped the new movie is a mess).

I feared he would see the drop, think they are pushing us out there and attempt to get out and climb backwards. He smiled bigger than he ever does, was so excited, making WOW noises and I was thrilled to see him so "free" and enjoying something so fully. AND I never was afraid. Last time I rode I covered the flashing lights with my hands so my eyes could watch the garage door go up and see the screen, floor area ............ and I was still fine.

My fears are as bad as his but I would just cry and freeze, and you can not get near me. You can't even get near me on a subway platform. I can do coasters but if they stop, it's all over. Couple years ago when that big one broke and it took hours to get all those people off, DS2 and I "laughed" about what would happen if it were me. I would just die up there. Of course months later I get on Kraken and at the top of big hill = STOP. After a couple minutes = panic inside, I can see the ground, I see next to me is a stairway all the way down but it is grated so you can see through and the rail is minimal. I hear DS asking friend "Is she okay?" and she didn't know. I was frozen, tears ... and after about 15 minutes I blurted "I don't want to be on the news" ........ you can't get near me, can't touch me and I was trying to figure out how I would get down ... obviously last because it would take an hour at least with my bumping my bottom down those steps clutching the rail.

25-30 minutes it finally went - great coaster - free bottles of water and several "FP" but was my heart tested.

SO I get height fears. :crazy2: I loved FoP, multiple times.

Just watch the movie, nothing else
and move your head with it, not just your eyes.
Avoids the dizzy (I also have vertigo ).
