Does Fantasmic package require DINNER purchase or just food purchase?

I'm trying to book a Fantasmic dinner package for 1/17. The only restaurant available is Brown Derby at 3:40. Bummer for a couple of reasons....3:40 is a bad time. DS naps from about 1-3. Of course, not literally those times every day...depends on how long it takes him to fall asleep, etc. And who wants to eat dinner at 3:40? Not me!

Secondly, we're on the dining plan and BD requires two table service credits. I really don't want to use two credits, nor do I want to pay out of pocket for an expensive restaurant.

So, can I book the package and just order dessert or an appetizer?

Or, can I call and book the package for four people? There are only three of us, but I've read lots of times to try asking for four to get a better selection. Kind of a problem given the credit card guarantee issue with the package. My DH REALLY wants to do the Fantasmic package as he thinks waiting with our very active child for 45-60 minutes pre-show otherwise will be very difficult.

You can order whatever you like, I'm sure, but you will be paying for the full three courses. It's one price for the entire package.

If you want the Fantasmic dining package, be advised that you will probably not be able to get one anywhere with seating later than 4 to 4:30. All Fantasmic package reservations are early, to allow plenty of time to eat and get to the show. In January, the park closes earlier, and the Fantasmic time is earlier.

And I wouldn't try the 4 instead of 3 thing with a package which has a no-show fee. You would likely not be able to get one later than the one you've already got anywhere - they're all that early.

If there isn't a specific charge for all items on the package, that is a change from the way it's been done.

You will still not be able to get anything later.

the info on allears is a bit "off"...they say you can now order ala carte at Mama Melrose & Brown Derby, which a lot of people have interpreted to mean they can order whatever they want (like just a dessert) and still get the tickets. Sorry to say that's not the way it really works... as was exlained to me in an email reply from Disney, it is a "dinner" package, so is charged accordingly. What changed was that it used to be a set menu for the dinner package for a set price. Now it is still a set price, but you choose any appetizer, any entree, and any dessert per person ... and you use the regular restaurant menu instead of getting only the limited choices of before. Sorry I already deleted the email, but if I recall correctly, Hollywood & Vine was around $28, Mama Melrose was around $33 and Brown Derby was about $46 per adult. Don't remember the kid's prices at all.

As previous posters have said, you pay a set price per person to do the package. At MM and BD, you get a choice of appetizer, entree, and dessert. You also get a beverage (non-alcoholic). When we called for a package (for January 3rd), we were quoted $28 for H and V, $35.14 for MM, and $46.99 for BD. There may be children's pricing, but we don't have any kids, so I either wasn't quoted the prices or I didn't write them down. Hope this helps.

Another thing to consider, Jan is really not that crazy, summer time busy.
Yes, it is MLK weekend, but do you really need priority seating. We literally walked into fantasmic in August. Granted it was the late show, but we were seated off to the side and could see just fine. Just something to reconsider.
46.00 is pricey if you really do not want dinner. Good luck

They do not charge it up-front either way: the credit card just guarantees the reservation...they will charge $10 per person if you're a no-show.
