Does everyone have to take Magical Express?

My sons and I are going down for a few days in December. DS23 and I will be driving from home on the 13th. DS 21 is in school about 3 hours from home and has a final late in the day onthe 13th. I am thinking about flying him down from Nashville to MCO, so we don't have to drive all night to get there. Can he take the Magical Express over to our resort? We are hoping that he will be flying with just a small carryon so luggage will not be a problem.
