Does Early Check-in Time = Better Room Assignment?

when I went last april, we checked in around 1pm, and the woman gave us a map of pop and asked us if we had any preference on what area we would like.

Your lucky then. They must have had a slow night.

We had that same experience basically at Pop, but we checked in much later (our flight was supposed to arrive in MCO at 5:30, but was delayed and we ended up getting to Pop around 8pm). This was on May 19th. The CM asked if we had any preferences (we really didn't because we were only staying 1 night which is why we didn't have any lsited), but since it was late and we were tired and hungry I asked for a room not too far away from the main building. We got a room in the 50s building closest to the main building, on the 4th floor, facing the courtyard, right next to the elevator. I was thrilled with the room she gave us, especially since I wasn't expecting anything great. We are really hoping this is the case at AKL in April. We've had good luck there checking in late before, but also bad luck. We really only care about being on the 2nd floor (and prefer Zebra Trail, but don't care about the savannah) so hopefully we'll get that. I'm having them note that we'll be arriving late so hopefully they'll save our room.
