Does DVC make sense for 40-something couple with no kids?

We had been going to WDW for over 10 years, a few day trips, then a couple of value stays, when it finally hit my DH that we should invest in DVC.We were booked in a moderate room and was upgraded to a junior suite! That's when he decided that maybe doing DVC would be a consideration. He likes the better things in life. We went home and DH did research online, talked to a few co-workers(who were DVC already) and the next thing .....We bought! Sight unseen, no tour. We started with 150pts and just added another 150 pts all at Saratoga. We plan on enjoying Dvc to the max, leaving it to my niece( if she wants it). 12 years ago I took DH ( who was just my boyfriend at the time) to Epcot for the day. The next year when we were down in Florida, I wanted to go back to Disney for the day. His response was, " We already did Disney!" I told him we had not touched the tip of the iceberg! Now with DVC, He's asking, " When are we going back?". This is on the plane ride back. Don't wait , if you can buy DVC you will not regret it. By the way, I'm 45, DH is 39 and we are childless.

We bought in our 30's when we had no kids.

Many people balked but we didn't care. Our money, our life.

You just need to be happy with your purchase, anyone elses opinion really doesn't matter.

Good Luck !

My husband is 32 and I am 36 and we do not have children, however, that will all be changing in 5 weeks when our baby is due. However, we bought into DVC three years ago and have been on 5 vacations between September 2004 and February 2007. We have friends that are using some of our points in September for 12 nights and we also got their parents a room for 5 nights. It has worked out terrific and we love having it. We have used it three times at Disney, once at HH and for a seven day Disney Cruise. We can't wait for our next vacation. My husband always jokes that I am not completely happy unless a vacation is planned. Surprisingly, with being so busy I haven't had a chance to even think about planning a vacation, but I know we will certainly need one very, very soon.

BUY DVC------IT IS SOOOOO WORTH IT!!!!!!

Do you love WDW? Do you go there frequently? Who started this idea that its only for families with kids?

I am 50, one kid in university and a 13 year old, and dh who hates WDW (:confused3 ). I gazed enviously at the DVC booths for years, but was afraid to get into a hard sell presentation, and I figured I couldn't afford it anyway. When I came back from my May 2007 vacation I started looking around the DVC forum, and learned a lot and saw how affordable it can be with resale. I have now purchased a small contract (60 pts), with the intention to add more points as I have the money saved.

No I don't think it is a waste for a couples of any age. Not if you love WDW and intend to go at least every other year. If you compare the cost of maintenance fees to the ever increasing cost of room rates, you will save money after a few years. My DH doesn't even like WDW, I'm looking forward to trying a solo trip sometime in the next few years (if I can sneak out without my kids knowing). Then later I plan to invite my sister, or friends to join me. My only regret is that I didn't discover this forum earlier.

I bought in at age 55 and have no regrets.

My wife and I are childless and bought into DVC (SSR) in 2004. Best move we ever made. It now guarantees us two weeks vacation per year and with everyone complaining about price increases we know we are not too affected by that. Also it has slowed our pace down while at WDW since we go twice a year and now we can stop and smell the roses so to speak. Also we have taken others with us who could not afford to stay on-sight and made theirs (as well as our) trip that much more memorable.
We just purchased another 130 points as an add on so we can travel to some other places as well as WDW because we just cannot give up two weeks at "home" a year.

A solo trip...to stay at each DVC resort...there's another good reason to buy, it's way to experience Disney differently each time.

We've never regretted our decision to buy. We've added on three times. We never stayed deluxe before when the kids were with us but that's really the best part. Now that we're 50+ and 60+, we really appreciate the posh accommodations and resort features. We spend a lot more time at the resort relaxing and DVC has made that a delight.

We may have young kids now, but once we're in our 50's with the kids out of the house, I can't wait for more solo trips for my DH and I! Not that we plan on waiting that long for a solo trip though. We will go by ourselves in 2009 for our 10th anniversary! :thumbsup2

We bought DVC after all our kids left the nest, and have never regretted it! :thumbsup2
While there have been occasional trips with them in the appromately 10 years that we've owned, our best trips are just for the two of us! :goodvibes
There's no rushing around; we eat when, where, and what we want; the parks are less crowded during "non-school-vacation" times, and in general, it's a feeling of "hakuna matata"! :hippie:

It only makes sense if:

You prefer to stay in the DVC resorts when you visit WDW.

You plan to visit WDW (or the HH or VB resorts ) at least every other year in the forseeable future.

You are not budget resort people.

You have the money without borrowing (my personal opinion).

If you like the Polynesian or Contemporary or Grand floridian and want to stay there, then don't buy DVC.

Hubby and I are in mid-50's and happen to be sitting in the living room of our 1-bedroom suite at OKW right now. No kids. Some days we sleep late, some days get up early and go somewhere for breakfast. The important thing - FOR US - is that we can stay any place in WDW and not rush around to get to parks, etc. We are having an excellent vacation. The best ever frankly.

Last year my brother and his wife and 2 kids came along and we got a 2 story place at SSR. Same thing for us. We met the family at whatever park they went to early that day, saw some shows, etc.

Just our experience.

Another munchkin-less 'mature' couple here. We bought DVC in 2000, I was 46 and dh was 41 (yes, I am a cradle robber and proud of it! :lmao: )

We love our DVC. Just got back Sunday from a 'quickie' long weekend trip to BWV. We had a wonderful relaxing time.

We plan on giving our points to either a niece or great nieces/nephews one day when we no longer are interested in going to WDW - did I really say that :scared1: ! If no one is interested, then we'll sell them, I guess. Really haven't thought that much about it. Too busy having fun planning the next trips!
