Does DVC ever ...

reduce points for slow periods?

they can't by law. if they reduced pts during the year, then they could be sued for having fraudulently oversold the resort (in other words, they can't legally sell more points than it takes to stay at BCV during the year - because some owners would have no chance of booking a stay).

timeshares are very different animals than hotels. this is one of the differences...if the point charts don't adequately reflect demand this year, then they will be changed in the future to equalize demand.

reduce points for slow periods? Or are the point charts absolutely firm for the year?

Thanks

They can adjust the points, they just made two adjustments. The totals for the year can not change, but everything else can.

i think the OP is asking if DVC ever decides that SSR might not fill up for may this year (for example) and therefore offer rooms at the last minute to DVC owners for fewer points than what is listed on the 2010 point charts...

the 2010 point charts are firm for this year.

DVC seldom is slow like the Disney resorts. The Disney resorts can offer all sorts of bargains to get you in. DVC can't do that except for cash reservations through DRC.

All the DVC rooms are basically already taken for the year by the point sold at that resort. They don't need to rent them out to make any cash.

..As mentioned, they cannot adjust DVC resort points mid-year.

I have seen Disney Cruise points changed mid year (late 2008?) to match the "free 2nd 3 day cruise", or was that free kids? offered to cash guests.
I guess that was more of a bonus than point reduction.....

Still you would not see a change for DVC owned resorts. New DVC resorts opening have offered sometimes pleasant changes for someone wanting to change their reservation to the new rooms (i.e. the 3BR THV for 2BR SSR points some switched to last summer, or the extra bathroom in Kidani or BLT)

If things turn out to be slow and units are not reserved, I believe they become available for rent at 60-days out. So even though they do not need to be filled, I think there still is money to be made (not sure where it goes). I cannot remember if I heard that through DVC or online, so please correct me if I'm wrong about it!
