Does Dramamine really work to subdue motion sickness on rides?

I have been seeing that some take this before going on rides - I have never had motion sickness before but the last time we were in Hogsmeade and I went on FJ and also the Simpson's ride I felt queasy. I am not happy I had that reaction!

For those of you who have tried this - does it really work?

I have never taken it - do you take it once in the morning or x number of minutes before the rides?

Lots of people take it the night before. I take it when I get up in the morning.

You really should give it a try before you go to make sure it doesn't make you groggy.

Works for me too. Though some things I still have to close my eyes for. Like parts of FJ and Simpsons and Spider-Man. I take it for a day before I ride, then one at least one hour before I ride. I try to have it in my system for a day or two before I ride to help my body accept the drug and work. I also use it for flying, as I get motion sickness in most anything that feels like I am in motion. I also take the generic, as it is so much cheaper and has the same active ingredient. Can also get it via prescription from your doctor for the active ingredient. Cheaper that way too. I hope it works for you. I also use Bonine or it's generic with the same results.

Bonine, Less Drowsy Dramine are all meclazine and can be purchased in a generic form at Walmart. I think it is about $4 for a package.

I take Bonine starting the day before and it works for me on *most* rides (mostly coasters). I still can't do anything with excessive spins or backwards motion, though.

I also recommend doing a "dry" run. It doesn't affect me in any way, but Bonine makes my hubby loopy. I gave him two (he is a BIG guy!) before we went on a river cruise and while he did not get nauseous as he normally would, he felt "high" the whole time.

The directions for bonine say to take 1-2 pills one hour before travel, but I felt that was ineffective for me. I take one in the morning the day before and another that night. I take another one in the morning on the day of rides and another one at night. So... 2 pills a day, starting the day before rides and each day of rides. I have taken them three consecutive days without issues.

What works for some may not work for you.....so you really have to try and hope for the best.....

Bonine kinda works for me on FJ as long as I only ride once, maybe twice.....but not for The Simpsons. Those are the only two rides I feel I need some help with......

Simpsons I won't ride again.....ever.

Absolutely. Won't go to the park without it anymore. So much easier to enjoy rides if I'm not worrying about feeling whoopsy.

Unfortunately last trip, we used some that had expired and it didn't work. Felt so awful after riding Hulk. (We didn't know about it until we got back to the room and looked at the bottle.)

Another lover of the meclazine here! Went to Busch Gardens Williamsburg recently. Forgot to take it the first day. Oops, big mistake! After 3 coasters, had to call it a day and go over to Colonial Williamsburg to try to calm my head down.

Next day, took two in the morning and did all six coasters with no problem. Had a lot better time touring without getting vertigo.

It takes a little bit experimenting to find out what works for you. For me, the less drowsy doesn't work as well for me as the original. If it make you extra sleepy, I've heard of people taking the less drowsy at night right before they go to bed. That way you sleep through the side effects.

On my last trip, I found as the week went on, I could take less of it and ride more rides back to back. At the start of the trip, I'd ride a couple ride then watch a show before things got "bad". My last day I was able to do DM, HRRR, Transformers, ROTM, Simpsons, MIB and Gringotts back to back in under a couple of hours with no ill effects.
