I heard, on another board, that DME no longer calls for your airline come for you with a wheelchair, that they have wheelchairs there for people needing them (but I wonder, once the person uses the wheelchair to get to the airline, how does the wheelchair get back?). Does anyone have any experience seeing wheelchairs available for use at the DME desk?

I have not heard anything like that.

The DME buses with lifts carry one or more manual wheelchairs in their luggage compartment. They are not for transport between the DME area and the gate.
They are used for guests without a wheelchair who need to use the lift to get into the bus (for example, someone with an ECV, which are stored underneath and can’t go on the lift).

Well, I had hoped the report was true, but was very doubtful. I guess my next trip will involve Uber/Lyft back to the airport. At least, from what I hear, they'll take me to the Southwest terminal so I just have to walk inside. DME is way too far a walk (well, more than a few steps-forget it. DME is so much more).
