and if so, how do I find their listings as opposed to these third parties. We are not currently owners, and are still in the EARLY planning/discussion process. Do we have to use a vacation guide, or is there a place to look?

Also - if you have purchased resales through Disney as opposed to the third parties, what are the pros and cons? Thanks in advance! :thanks:

Disney does not actually "re-sell" a contract. What they do is use their Right of First Refusal to purchase a resale contract, if they feel that the price is too low, or if they feel they have a need to get some points for a resort or use year for people wanting to do an add-on.

Once Disney acquires a contract in this manner, the contract is dissolved and the points contained in it go into a "pool" of points for that resort and use year, which can then be used for new contracts or resales, just like "new" points.

They don't resell contracts. However, they will sell you a new contract at one of the "sold out" resorts, if they have the points (they end up with contracts for various reasons and put the points from them into a big pool from which they make the new contracts).

If you try and buy through Disney, your "guide" (aka timeshare saleman) will push hard for one of the new resorts, but will sell you at the old resort if you insist.

Others may be able to give you a better list of pros and cons, but here's what I'd consider:

- through Disney - fast and easy (assuming they have the points)
- through Disney - flexibility in number of points, as long as at least 160+

- through reseller - save money
- through reseller - only way to get contract with <160 points

I am a little confused by your question...Disney sells their points through Vacation Club Guides. Disney can purchase ReSales in they desire, but they are then going to sell them just as they do any other points.

You can purchase points through one of the many Resale sites/stores. These are points that current members no longer want or need, so they list them for resale. Doing this is the same as purchasing from Disney, but you may get a lower overall price. Disney considers you a DVC member just as you would be had you purchased through Disney directly.

What are you looking to buy?

Thanks for all your help. Here are some answers to above and more questions.

We are interested in having BWV as our home resort, but we know this is "sold out" so we were curious if it is worth waiting for Disney to get the points in the pool and if current owners get first pick instead of a new person. Also, when you buy from Disney - how long are the points good for? Is the contract good for 50 years or just the remainder of the original purchase?

We just did this last month. We bought a VWL contract directly from Disney.

The guide didn't even try to sell me on the new resorts, because we had our minds made up that we were going to buy where we wanted to stay: VWL.

disney has pts available for BWV which they sell as add-ons to members and sometimes new contracts if interested parties know to ask...some use year months may not be available and may require waitlisting.

except for OKW, all contracts for a home resort have the same expiration date regardless of whether you purchase resale or direct. BWV expires in 2042.

Thanks a million for all your answers. That was what we needed to know - let the dreaming and planning begin!
