Does Disney really care who is staying in which rooms?

i would call back too. we have had dinner at one hotel and then gotten a room at that hotel before to get a night away. how would they even know? they dont take your ssn or anything....how do they know you are the same `so and so` as in another room?

Exactly.

Just in our relatively small area there are several people with my husband's name. Only the middle name is different, and Disney doesn't ask for that. How on earth would they know if it's the same John Smith or a different one?

Especially with an extended family unit, it's entirely possible to have more than one person with the same name. My paternal family has at least three Michael our-last-names in it.

Now, I wouldn't do it on the phone; I'd do it online. But that's b/c I do just about everything online.

Hmmm, I think I would call back and speak to someone else. It very well could be Disney's new policy and they won't allow it, but that excuse sounds fishy to me. Who cares if it's "fair?" It's not like you're getting one of the rooms for free. As long as Disney is getting paid for both rooms, I don't see what the big deal is. Have you tried booking it online and just seeing if it goes through?

I argued the point with him, but he still wouldn't do it. I didn't see how it could possibly be unfair when both rooms would be occupied, and I had really only called to price out a room at a Deluxe, when we were booked at a moderate, I asked him to do the 7 day hold and I would call back as soon as I talked to the other members of our group that were going and he still refused to do it.

I contacted my friend who is a TA and had her book it, thenm I called and cancelled the one with WDTC, I refused to let them get the commission for it.

Think outside the box for a minute. This is not a standard "hotel", this is a resort.....

The problem is not they are getting paid for the room, but people are not paying for meals, buying merchandise, buying tickets, etc. People are booking two rooms for one night and only spending the money on-site they would do if another family was in that room.

Disney is a business that has stockholders that need to see the bottom line. If everyone did what you say, they would money...is it fair to you, maybe not. But it is Disney's rules and we need to abide by it.

At the time there was going to be one family in each room, so Disney was getting their money, I don't see how that is "unfair" to anyone.

When we travel to Disney, we stay on property and they get all the money that we spend, we don't travel offsite for any reason.

They know because all of your reservations are linked in the system and can be pulled up based on the phone number given and address. I have never been able to call and even check pricing without a hassle because they can see what I already have booked. It's annoying as heck, but they do it every time. I have even tried not putting in my information, but somehow they can pull it without me entering it in the system.

Um. really? I had no idea if I booked a room at a Disney resort I had to go into the parks, buy merchandise, meals, etc. And golly, I own Disney stock! Not just one with the schmancy frame, either. Your idea has merit, however, there are a lot of locals who book rooms for a night or two and perhaps only use the pool. They get meals out, off property, they don't buy merchandise.

How exactly does Disney know what a guest is doing when they are not in the room as far as spending money?

And FTR, please find that rule and post it here, I would love to see it. Perhaps I will ask at next years shareholders meeting why Disney isn't enforcing this rule.

are you by chance booking a military rate? maybe there are different rules associated with those deals?

also....they don't have my husbands number on file.....they have only mine the lead guest. it has never even occurred to me to ask if it was okay and i have never been asked if we are staying there or at another resort.

Yes, because I want our stock to remain viable! Imagine people using the resorts and not the parks, restaurants, etc!

You should try to attend a meeting, they are informative and a lot of fun. You get a feeling of what the business side is really like.

Yes, I was checking to see if there was a Military discount at a Deluxe resort, but it doesn't matter what discount or rack rate I was looking for, if I was going to use both rooms, it's none of their business and he shouldn't have refused to book the room for me.

I have booked that rate many times, can't even remember how many times and there aren't any different rules than any other discount.

After my TA booked the room and I cancelled the first room, I called to price out a different room and the CM could even see the reservation my TA booked, but she didn't have a problem checking anything and holding it for me for a little while, so why should the first guy. Makes no sense to me.

i agree it shouldn't matter. i really don't think this is the rule in general though. i hope the cm you spoke with didn't understand the situation or was misinformed. if not then i wonder if it is a rule (although a silly one) that applies to the military discounts. not okay....but it might explain why your experience is different from mine and the others who are saying they have done it.

my grandfather graduated from the navel academy in the early 1940s and is retired navy. we have used the military discounted tickets before and there are certainly more hoops to jump through then just buying tickets in a package. that's why i thought it may have something to do with it. who knows if it actually does but either way i agree....who cares if you want two rooms? you should be able to pay for a 2nd room just for the extra space if you feel like it!

Use a travel agent or Travelocity and it shouldn't be an issue! Sounds like a nice idea, enjoy!

:thumbsup2 or call Disney and tell them what you'd like to do.
I don't see why they'd have a problem. You're still paying for the other room. It isn't like you're trying to get it for free.
