Had a discussion with my father who has passed his love of disney onto my family and now both families from Ct. enjoy Disney 2 to 3 times a year. He thinks that it would be better for me to charge everything on the room card and at the end settle up with the cash I bring rather than pay cash as I go along. He thinks disney watches your spending and hotel stays and other stuff when you use your room charge. I don't know but when we go we spend about $500 a day in food, shows, pictures, snacks, arcade, pins, clothes and other stuff. I put my cash in the safe and take out what I need for the day. He charges everything and when he hits his limit pays cash at the front desk. He thinks you get special treatment when they look up your name they see what kind of money your droppping at the parks and resorts. Does anyone think this is true and do you think it helps you get anything?

Well, I think that if you insist on taking that much cash that you should give it to the front desk DAY ONE and have it put on your account. Those safes are NOT completely safe. (And just to give you a real horror story, when we went to Europe last year one of the GS leaders lost ALL of the cash and traveler's checks at the airport!!! I do not recommend traveling with more cash then you can afford to lose)

We dont put our cc on our card. If we are going to use our CC Dh would rather use that than put it on the room key. We use cash every day or travellers chq. We limit our daily amount and that seems to work for us. I dont think Disney gives you any special treatment because your spending lots of $$ . They can also track your purchases when you ship things back to your room as well.

I agree w/carol. I gave the desk $600 cash and then backed up with a cc. very easy and convenient w/ the room key charging. :wizard:

I charge everything to the room - it creates a nice record of the trip, but I never received anything that would lead me to believe that someone was looking at it.

On our most recent trip we were on the premium plan, however, we ended up putting our adult beverages and big purchases on the room. Little stuff, pins, sodas, etc. we paid cash and it worked very well. The night before we checked out, I went to the desk, reviewed the charges and paid the bill. No worries the next morning.

Disney probably doesn't look at your spending habits when you charge to the room, but I'm sure they could if they wanted to.

Your dad sounds like my dad though, he thinks stuff like this too, but my dad gets this idea from his trips to Vegas! :rotfl:

Really though, with everyone and their brother out there tracking your spending and offering a rewards card, maybe it isn't so crazy. :confused3

It scares me to think of carrying that much cash.

I love charging to my room key. I never took cash with me ever during our week long trip last year...and never needed it. That's one of the things I love most about Disney!

I agree with this post. I carry very little cash around. As someone note, the safes are not 100% and there are too many people around today trying to rip you off or steal something from you.
Another reason I use the credit card option to charge via our room key is because of the bonus dollars I receive from my credit card company. Since I pay off the balance each month there is no finance charge. And since there is no annual fee on my card (Discover) the money they are giving me is a free gift.

No, I don't think this matters at all. I've read of wonderful surprises happening to families who's budgets and spending are quite modest, and others who are spending thousands and thousands who have nothing really special happen to them. :)

Heck, I've read of wonderful surprises happening to families with big budgets, who completely don't appreciate them, and I've read of nothing special happening to families with small budgets, who utterly enjoy their vacations despite that. There is remarkably little correlation between special treatment and how much you enjoy your vacation. How much you enjoy your vacation almost seems to be something determined solely by your temperament. :)

Disney tracks every phone call that you make to reservations, and records every trip that you take and who is traveling with you - of this I am sure. So why wouldn't they track what you spend and where you spend it?

I am sure they can track (for those on the Magic Your Way dining plan) where you eat your meals and what you eat.

The OP was asking if you get special treatment because of spending a lot of money; my answer to THAT is "No". However, of course Disney can and probably does track your spending habits, but I've never seen that reflected in the kind of service you get in the parks, shops, or restaurants. :)

Bicker: I agree 100%.

Information spending habits is more likely than not going to be reflected only in promotional offerings made to you. For example, if your spending indicates that you're going to visit WDW and stay at a deluxe, even without being offered any discount, you're unlikely to receive a PIN code discount. OTOH, if it appears that discounts drive your purchasing decisions, and that the company more than makes back the discount through other spending, then you are more likely to receive such discounts.
