Does Disney ever give room upgrades?

We've been upgraded from standard to water view at AKL.

Depending on when you are going (as long as you are not cutting into Jersey Week), you might get the upgrade if you inquire about availability.

If the resort is not at capacity....who knows!

well, im not staying on points- we paid for the rooms- booked through disney. we're actually going down for a combo of my 30th bday and our 5 yr wedding anniversary. if no upgrade- i hope we at least get a room w/a view of DTD. do they have fireworks?

I dont' think fireworks, but I think they have a light show. This year, I was at Typhoon Lagoon EMH at night, and I was in the lazy river and I saw a bunch of flashing lights and stuff, and I asked a near by woman if she knew what it was, and she said she thinks there's a light show somewhere in DTD. I don't know how often they do it, though.

1) Most upgrades occur due to capacity and overbooking.
2) They upgrade to make space available for lower priced rooms.
3) It is strictly a random occurrence.
4) And, each upgrade needs to be rationalized.
5) Other upgrade reasons
. . . room unavailable due to mechanical problems
. . . can't get room cleaned in time, so it is "left dirty"
. . . once-in-a-while pixie dust from the Front Desk for someone they like

We have stayed at both the WL and AKL and both time we got a upgrade. We don't ask to be upgraded but it just happens by luck. So just cross your fingers and hope for the best!! That's what I always do.

We've been to WDW probably 12 times since 1991 and have been fortunate enough to be upgraded to Concierge twice -- once at the Beach Club in 2001 and once at the Boardwalk Inn in 2006. These were fabulous upgrades and I felt lucky.

We traveled with my brother-in-law and his wife to BWI in January of this year and they were upgraded from a standard view room to deluxe concierge - very nice upgrade.

We had never recieved upgrades and then last Christmas we had a stanard view room at AKL and they asked if we wanted an upgrade to Sav. View. And then over Spring Break we had the Standard view at BWV and got an upgrade so it does happen.

After booking/paying for our September vacation this may (staying at ASMu) we received an email, with an message line of "Enjoy a Disney Resort upgrade on us, (last name) Family"! We got to choose from Saratoga Springs or Old Key West. It was an unexpected and fabulous surprise!

I just came back from the Beach Club last week. I had booked a standard room with an AP discount $245 night. When I arrived, I was informed that I had been upgraded to Club level. Needless to say, I was happy. In the Club lounge, I met another family that had been upgraded to Club level also.

That's great news... I booked the same at Yacht Club for Sat. Same rate. Fingers crossed....

I got an upgrade to river view once at POFQ back in 1997, didn't ask we just found out when we got to our room. It was a nice surprise.

In 2003 we got a call about a week before our trip that POFQ was going to be closing entirely for renovations and were told we could chose CSR, POR or CBR instead. I told them I'd call them back, and when I did I voiced my displeasure over what was being done. I was put on hold, and when they came back to me they offered us a standard view room AKL at a rate of $120 a night. That's better than what we had been due to pay at POFQ. When we went to check in they upgraded us to a Savannah view.

No upgrade this past trip, but I was just happy we weren't looking out over the parking lot!

We had a standard view booked at BWI last year and and we weren't told at check-in that we were upgraded to a Boardwalk/Water view room. What a nice surprise when we entered our room!!!!!
