Does Disney allow smoking on your balcony?

The reason I am asking is, I just read my latest confirmation from the Dolphin, and it says NO SMOKING IN ROOMS OR ON BALCONY. They will charge $200 to your bill (cleaning fee) if they find evidence of smoking.

As a non-smoker, and someone that is offended by second-hand smoke, I am pleased.

Does anyone know what the Disney-owned resorts are doing?

Nope, no smoking allowed on balconies at Disney resorts, and there is a fine levied if someone is caught smoking in a room or on a balcony.

You are only allowed to smoke in designated smoking areas at the resorts. Your balcony is off limits too. But---There have been many many posts on how Disney is NOT doing a great job at enforcement.

well...i am a smoker...stayed at CSR last Sept ...every single time I walked down to the the designated smoking area (yes even in the rain with my umbrella) and in a hotel with LOTS of guests...I was ALWAYS alone. :confused3

Well you were either the unlikely only smoker in your section OR more likely you were the only NOBLE smoker.

The penalty is higher in Vegas...some of the hotels charge up to $400 if you are caught smoking in your room.

As a former smoker (I quit a little over a year ago), I always smoked in the "designated only smoking areas." It is just common courtesey to those who don't smoke. Last year at the CSR and at the parks, I had no problem with mentioning to people where the closest smoking area was. I often got some dirty looks, but I felt better doing so.

No smoking in Disney Resorts. The ones I stayed at when they started it did charge a fee for smoking & the maids are suppose to report it. When I stayed at the WL & BWI I had to sign when I check in a box saying no smoking or a $250 cleaning fee would apply. At WL I was told they had a person that broken the rules was fined three times after that they escort him out of resort. But this is what I heard so not sure if true.:confused3

For those who still think the rules does apply to them who smoke on balcony, yes it bothers me if I am sitting on my balcony trying to enjoy the view  And it does follow you back into your room.

Okay, this is new. When did Las Vegas ban smoking in hotel rooms, and which hotels fine this amount?

Disney does not allow on balconies either......now if they would just ENFORCE that $200 fine.........:rotfl2:

I have seen them try to enforce the ban a time or two but remember, one of the problems is that you actually have to catch the person smoking. Even if the room reeks and you walk into a fog of smoke, you can't actually accuse a guest of breaking the rules.
If you actually see some one smoking on their balconies, you can call and report it.

Congratulations on quitting smoking!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Has anyone ever posted about being charged the 200.00?

I stayed with two girlfriends at OKW Nov '07 in a 1 bedroom with the lockoff. I was assigned to sleep on the pullout couch each night. EVERY single morning that we were there, I was awakened to an older woman sitting on the balcony of that locked off room adjacent to the window near the couch. Guess what folks...cigarette smoke coming right into the room.:scared1: UGH! She got up early too! I saw her using a dish from the kitchenette as her personal ashtray. :( :(
When I inquired about the smoking policy at the HH it was too late. We were checking out. The woman there said I should have said something earlier. I guess I don't want to snitch on someone. Why can't people just follow the rules?:confused3

Would the accept a picture on you camera phone as proof? Just wondering.

That's not true at other non-smoking hotels. When I checked into a Westin I signed a statement that said that if my room smelled like smoke I would be charged the fee ($300 I think). Since the policy was new I asked how it was going and the lady said it was working. They charged the credit card that the smokers left for incidentals and so far the companies hadn't upheld any challenges once the hotel showed the signed statement. So it is not necessary to "catch" a person smoking only to be able to prove that they have been through smell evidence.

But does Disney have that policy stated? I was just there and all my contract said (stayed at the WL) was smoking was not permitted and violatiors can be fine $200. The what happens if a person gets charged and contest the charges? Says the room smelled like that before hand or the smell is from the mousekeepers who just came through? (Can you tell I clerked for a lawyer? :lmao: )
I can see this getting real ugly, real fast.

Actually I wished Disney had kept some of the rooms smoking, I think this way you wouldn't have all smokers going "underground" and sneaking.
