Does Delta really want to go out of business?

I'm posting this in hopes of jinxing myself. You know, the old "I should have waited" routine.

(now the ramblings........)

What is the deal? The other airlines are starting great sales going until late this fall. Delta is still holding strong at some high rates, though. We have vouchers that I would really love to use for our trip in Sept, but with all of these good sales going on, it is hard to wait. COME ON DELTA! ;)

Wouldn't ya know...I had vouchers for United and all I could find was good airfare on Delta!! Finally, United's prices came down (from MSP to MCO) so I booked. The prices still were not as good as I had hoped, but I was too nervous the prices would go back up and I would miss out on using my vouchers. The prices were back up within days....

I think Delta is just being greedy. A week ago I could have purchsed round trip from EWR to MCO for 202.00 now their up to 329.00. I sure hope they add more flights.

I booked Delta about 2 weeks ago for $158/person for a November trip. They had the lowest fare and the best traveling times for us. We leave from Laquardia, and we arrive in Orlando at 10:51 a.m. and on the return flight we leave Orlando at 5:20 and arrive back at Laquardia at 7:58. And these are both direct flights. We had a lot of choices as far as traveling times go. When I checked the same flights today they were up to $164/person - that's not too bad. I checked the Northwest flight for the same time and they want $220/person and the times of travel stink and they weren't direct flights.

I too booked my Delta flights for November in April 02, and it is a direct flight out of Providence with the exact times I wanted for $178.00 per person, and now those same flights are $273.00 but the flight is more than 3/4 full, however this is for the week of Thanksgiving so I grabbed them at the $178.00 because I was affraid to wait.

2 years ago I opted to try a booking online...found the most awsome fares for us at the exact times we wanted ($166PP RT, 1st flight out of Detroit, last flight out of Orlando)...

I have now been looking for several months hoping to find another Delta flight...no such luck...so I emailed them and asked whats up...

Their reply was confucing & typical...

They spewed some analytical marketing jibberish layered with cost effective ratio's and sprinkled in a little hope that if they reviewed enough consumer comments that maybe prices would ease....

It was absolutely the most meaningless pile of (you know what) that I have read in quite a while....

I was going to reply...but chose not to after I got a great fare with North West...Delta looses....oh well....

We have booked Delta the last 4 years, and always find that the earlier we book, the better the fare price. For example:

Booked Feb for July = $222 RT nonstop direct Newark to Orlando
Booked Sept for July = $178 RT nonstop direct LaGuardia to Orlando
Booked Aug for July = $166 Rt nonstop direct LaGuardia to Orlando

The earlier we booked the better our fare, and as time passed and the flights got closer, they never went down in price, only up,up,up!

I know not everyone is able to book so far ahead, but if you can, it's worth a cheaper fare. :):D:)

MY NEIGHBOR IS FLYING TO ORLAND 2ND WEEK OF JUNE AND THEY RESERVED ROUND TRIP TICKETS NONSTOP FOR $99.00, JUST LAST WEEK OFF THE INTERNET THE AIRLINES WAS
CALLED PACER. I BOOKED CONNECTING FLIGHTS IN MARCH FOR MAY 28 THRU 6-03 FOR 164.OO ON PRICLINE (UNITED)THAT INCLUDED ALL CHARGES. HOWEVER, I WAS AT UNITED AIRLINES
TICKET COUNTER YESTERDAY AND THEY TOLD ME THEIR PRICES WERE COMING DOWN TOO,
BUT THE CHEAPEST PLACE TO GET THEM WOULD BE ON THE INTERNET. I ALSO HAVE SOME OTHER FRIENDS WHO ARE FREQUENT FLYERS WHO ALWAYS PURCHSA ONLINE THRU PRICELINE
WHO REPORT THAT BEST TIME TO DO THIS IS ON WEDNESDAY LATE NIGHTS. MY SISTER
IS AN AIRLINE STEWARD FOR DELTA, WHO WE GET STANDBY TICKETS FROM BUT WE ONLY USE FOR THE TWO OF US BECAUSE YOU NEVER NO.

Delta's prices really fluctuate, huh? It can be frustrating. I recently bought tickets to Cancun, about a month later it came down in price, and I asked for and received vouchers for the difference.

Delta has really tight scaling. By that I mean they have x amount of tickets at the lowest fare and then x amount at the next price, then x amount and the next higher price, etc.

Delta's most competive rates are where they have the most competition. Right now Delta's competition is tight where ever Air Tran has a large presence.

All I can say is keep trying with the online sights and with Delta's internet site.

I booked Delta from Toledo to Orlando last June for $195. With all of the stuff going on last fall I booked a weekend getaway from Detroit to Orlando for $137! Those days are gone. I got a fare this year for $197 for July and I booked it in Feb.--my parents tried to book the same planes a month later and it was over $300! This is from Toledo to Orlando with one stop. (Non stops may be better, but you don't get a lot of nonstops out of Toledo, unless you want to end up in Chicago or Atlanta!! And it is 10 min. from home and a nice little airport).
