I do agree except that we paid almost 700pp on our first flight. We went from Montana (very small plane) to SLC and then off to MCO. We were given the standard RUDE and annoyed looks from the first class passengers (not all but some). I did some researching and found out that we paid well over twice the amount forsome of the first class passengers. It seems that there are deals and there are great prices but not for everyone all the time. IMO Delta has gone downhill and I have been flying with them as long as I can remember. If other airlines can offer deals why can't all sometimes?
They do offer deals. Just the other day someone posted about $49 fares for ALL flights Delta was flying out of their home airport (can't remember which one). The flight schedules weren't the best, but at $98 round trip it was a bargain for someone willing to put up with the travel time and stops.
The reason you may have paid twice what the first class passengers did is that most first class passengers only paid for coach and were upgraded. My boss flies frequently and NEVER pays for a first class ticket, but almost always ends up in first. Many of the elite members of the airline's loyalty programs can upgrade easily into first.
My own personal experiences with Delta have been excellent, so I can't really agree with your assessment. By the same token, every airline has issues from time to time and no problem is really unique to any given airline.
