I was wondering if anyone has tried using Bonine for motion sickness on thrill rides and what their experiences have been with it?

I love thrill rides, but noticed a definite queasy feeling the last time I tried some very mild coasters (more mild than barnstormer) and I have been toying with the notion of taking bonine during my trip next year. Anybody ever try it??

My dh uses them and they really help him out. He takes them before we head one in the morning.

If he didn't take them, he'd be hanging out on a park bench for several hours or worse!

I have used them in the car and they do work. (I do not get sick on thrill rides, but I would assume they would work.)

Just a side note: they should not be used for children. Unfortunately, none of the non-drowsy medications are recommended for children under 12. I even picked up a kind that was marked "Kids" on the front, but when you read the dosing it was for "kids 12 and over".

Bonine and any of those anti-queasy meds totally knock me out, so I started using SeaBands, and, amazingly, they actually work. They are pressure-point bands that you wear on your wrists. I have motion sickness, and was very afraid to go on a float plane because of it. I used the SeaBands, and had no problems whatsoever! I imagine they wouldn't work for everybody, but they've been a lifesaver for me.

And my friend with Meniere's disease (an inner ear disorder) swears by them!

Thank you Nancy for responding, but for the sake of clarification, were you referring to bonine or ginger pills?

I would suggest the ginger tablests, no side effects. Bonine can make you really sleepy. I have brought bonine with me on my last 3 cruises and have never had to use it, I just take the ginger tables with meals or as I remember them. There is also crytalized ginger candy that you can give to a child or adult, you can find it at like Whole foods or in the seasons section of a grocery store. :surfweb:

Yes, but makes me really tired.

So,
A few years ago I broke down and purchase a "Relief Band"
which were created for Pilots.
It is the best purchase that I've ever made.
I have since purchased 2 additional bands, one for each person
in my family because they tried mine and loved it= because it works.
My D-Sis also suffers from Motion sickness and she also tried mine
and loved it.
Besides working for motion sickness it also is great for Migraines
or very bad headaches, indigestion (from overeating).
Absolutely no side affects, no drowsiness at all.
Can be used only when you need it and works even after you start
to feel the motion sickness coming on.
I purchased mine on Ebay, they are a little expensive but I will
never have to buy any type of motion sickness meds ever again.
They are great to wear for Airplanes, cruises, and any roller coaster.
I used it last trip and it was the 1st trip that I was able to ride
everything with my DS and was not the DUD MOM sitting on the sides
waiting.

There is a New one up on Ebay right now item#: 110299387387 (Free shipping)
It may not be up for long-- They go fast--it has a reasonable Buy Now price on it and Free shipping.

Here is more information that I found online about Relief Bands:

ReliefBand(R) Explorer device is a watch-like device worn on the ventral side of the wrist for use in the treatment of nausea and vomiting due to pregnancy, postoperative nausea, chemotherapy, and motion sickness. When activated, the device emits a low-level electrical current across two small electrodes on its underside. The ReliefBand(R) device is the first patented, commercially available Nausea-Vomiting device to reach the clinical marketplace.
Now with the ReliefBand(R) device, you have more opportunity to enjoy flying, boating, amusement park rides and other types of travel and entertainment without having motion sickness spoil your good time.
The non-prescription ReliefBand(R) device is unlike anything else sold for motion sickness. It offers numerous advantages. First, it is Drug Free. Because it is not a drug, you won't have the headache, drowsiness, dizziness or other side effects typical of most medicinal remedies on the market. Also, instead of having to take something several hours ahead of time, the ReliefBand can be used any time, even after nausea symptoms start. Second, there are no restrictions on consumption of food, beverages or medications with the use of ReliefBand. And finally, unlike medicines, pressure bands, and other passive remedies, with the ReliefBand device you control the level and duration of relief. You can actually feel it helping to control your motion sickness.
Worn like a bracelet or a watch, the ReliefBand device uses gentle electrical signals to stimulate a specific nerve in the underside of the wrist. There are five levels of stimulation; adjust the dial to the highest level that feels comfortable. By stimulating the body's nervous system in this fashion, the ReliefBand can be used to relieve the nausea and vomiting symptoms associated with motion sickness.
Features:
· Rotary dial adjusts output to one of five power settings.
· Light indicates operation and low battery condition.
Do not use if wearing cardiac pacemaker.
The unlimited use Reusable ReliefBand operates for approximately 140 hours at power level 2 before you need to change the batteries. Then it's just a matter of picking up two 3V lithium batteries (CR2025) at your local drug store or where camera batteries are sold. The Reusable unit ensures that protection from motion sickness is always as close as your flight bag.
Batteries and conductivity gel included

Just got off the Wonder and used Sea Bands as well as took Ginger pills every six hours. It was the perfect combination!!

I used Bonine last year in Disney and it worked great!! For me, it worked just as well as dramamine (without the price...lol) (I get motion sickness even just going on the merry-go-round). I took one every day we were there, but I wasn't tired like some others were posting. I also found Bonine for kids, and the label reads: "for children 6 to under 12 yrs of age: chew 1 tablet thoroughly every 6 to 8 hours." I haven't needed to use the kids one yet as my dd wouldn't ride any of the coasters last year, but she really wants to this year, so just in case, I know I have it =)

My DD has motion sickness and has to take something everytime we fly. I didn't want her to take the "sleepy" dramamine and talked with her Doc. He said it was fine to use a pill cutter and give her half a non-drowsy one. For the record she was 8 at the time we got this reccomendation.

My brother always takes Bonine before going to any amusement park and it works for him.

Yes, Bonine is great--- but let me give you my age/background.
1. I am 39 years old- female.
2. I LOVE thrill rides & always have.
3. But after I had my son, something changed (as it always does, huh?), I found I could no longer ride the "spinny" rides, they make me dizzy & nautious.
4. I am strong, healthy, & I workout.
5. But no matter what I take, I can not ride those DARN TEACUPS in the Magic Kingdom !!

Bonine is great!! It does not make you sleepy or drowsy. They are very small & also chewable. I take them before the plane ride & take 1 in the morning & another in the late afternoon to keep from feeling too "yucky" after the Tower of Tower or RockNRoller Coaster. But I don't think they make a pill that would keep me from getting sick on those darn teacups in Magic Kingdom!!!! I almost literally passed out after riding those 3 years ago with my son!!
:santa: :santa: :santa:

42 days until our first stay at Wilderness Lodge !!

Thanks for all of the replies. I think I am going to try Bonine. I have some left over from a cruise I took this year. I too used to be able to do all the thrill rides w/out on side effects but as soon as I turned 40 ..it was like my body said whoa.. girl wait a minute. :yay:

Hi, any idea where could i find this bonine motion sickness pills in singapore?

Thanks!

I've tried all of the natural remedies...ginger pills, pressure point bands...they didn't do anything for me. I take either the non-drowsy, or the less-drowsy bonine or dramamine (whatever one I can find) and it works like a charm! I still won't ride the teacups, though. Barf city.
