Does any one give any thought to Mad Cow Disease in the U.S. when it comes to bringing beef home?

So it's not "where is the beef?" it's more like "Where has the beef been?"?

Oddly enough, I never think about it when eating beef, but it crosses my mind everytime I go to the dentist.

Beef -- it's what's for dinner! YUM!

I don't give it a first, let alone a second, thought.

I tend not to worry too much about mad cows. It's the really ticked off pigeons that have me running scared.

I used to, because I had 2 degrees of separation from someone who died of it. It kind of freaked me out. That was many years ago though, and it faded.

That's how you stay in shape?? And here people think you are just jogging! :teeth:

If it showed up in the US I would probably stop buying ground meat but not meat at all.

I haven't eaten beef or beef byproducts since 1987, so I'm not worried for myself. However, my Mom used to work with a woman who is dying from Mad Cow. I did a teeny amount of research and there are at least 150 known cases in the U.S. right now but the government doesn't want people to know. :sad2:

I am very skeptical of this. I have looked and looked and no valid news service that I can find is reporting anything like 150 cases (I should have said human cases because that was what I meant) in the US. If there were the media would be all over it. So far all cows with it in the US were isolated cases. So far, according to a 15 minute search I did today of Google News, there have been 3 cases reported in the US. That does not a conspiracy make.

I rarely eat beef so It's not on my mind.

The whole bird flu thing is though, if we can't eat chickens or eggs because of bird flu, can't eat beef because of mad cow, can eat fish because of mercury.

Whats for dinner tonight? Yummy genetic engineered foods and tap water, oops can't drink that either.

I was referring to human cases in the U.S.. To be fair, I have no idea where these people were when they contracted the disease. If I think of it, I'll ask my Mom if she knows whether her friend had caught it while traveling. The impression I got was that she wasn't.

While I'm definitely not a conspiracy theorist, by any stretch of the imagination, "valid news services" just don't know everything. I'm not saying it's good, bad or anything else. It just is.

I dont really give it much thought. Only when I see the cows on tv, thats about it.

There has been case evidence of iatrogenic transfer of prions through dental equipment. However, although I think about it, I wouldn't say I've gone as far as 'worrying' about it. There's no point as it usually doesn't show up for years and there's nothing that can be done about it anyway.

I believe that the U.S. does not test every cow before it goes into the food supply. They do visual checks and random testing. So, if there have been 3 cases discovered, more than likely, I would suspect that there has, by now, been a Mad Cow in our food supply.

I think Japan tests every cow before it goes in the food supply. Of course, it's easier for them as their beef consumption is not nearly as large as ours.
