I know this may be a silly question but I am trying to find the best deal and what better place to get info then here. We are building a house and have been shopping around for finishes and such. Today at a kitchen and bath store (not a big box store) we found a nice large soaking tub. We jokingly asked the guy at the counter if the store ever has floor model sales. He stated that the tub had been there awhile and he is pretty certain the manager would like to move it out so he would think she would give a good discount.

So what we are wondering is how much do stores pay for floor models. I know they do not pay retail but what do they pay? We found a price online for the tub to have something to compare it too.

Thanks for any and all help

I don't think any retailer buys floor models of anything. I think floor models are one of an item taken from stock and put on display - so potential buyers can view the item without ripping open boxes :).

Since there are SO many different styles, models, manufacturers, etc., you probably might want to just do a search for some version of "soaking tub wholesale markup percentage".

Yes it becomes a floor model when the owner of the store opens it and puts it on the floor. The owner probably pays wholesale for all of the goods he purchases. He may not however sell it to you for that price.

I never thought about what the store bought an item for, as long as it was a good deal off the price they were asking is what matters to me... I am not saying this to be witchy, I just never thought about it before

We have even seen good open box deals at Lowes.

We ordered a double sinktop, and they sent a single. So that one went onto their floor at a very reduced price.

We ended up buying one that was some sort of messup for our other bathroom. (double sinktops, even marble, can be very expensive, one we needed was 73" long).

Lowes reduces it by maybe 25%? then they keep reducing it each week. But, it is hit or miss, of course.

I once ordered a large kitchen sink online, but DH would not allow me to do that for a new (American standard regular 5') bathtub, as he said, if it is damaged, shipping it back would be a nightmare. I ordered a new tub from Lowes. I did not like the few they had in the store, but they have loads to choose from on the website. We had it shipped to the store.
