Does anyone stay solo in a 1BR?

I just bought at SSR so I have not yet made any DVC trips.

I often travel solo and the studio seems like it will be perfect. I like to have a couch to sit on (which is why I prefer SSR over OKW), a microwave and a frige. (small frige is ok for one person).

Privacy is obviously not an issue when you are solo. Nor do I need two TVs. I stay in Marriot properties with a full kitchen when I visit in CA and find that I have never used more than the microwave and the refrigerator.

The washer and drier might come in handy. The tub sounds nice, but when I had one in my old home I never used it. Of course I was not spending my days at the park walking for miles. I guess if I really wanted to watch a DVD I could use my laptop.

I think that I will try for a 2BR when I travel with friends. Everyone talks about how you get spoiled staying in the 1 and 2 BR units. I am just curious whether anyone ever gets a 1BR as a solo (not counting when a studio is unavailable).

I have stayed solo several times in a 1-bedroom--at OKW, BWV and BCV. I must say, while I enjoyed the space, I really felt like it was a waste of points for me. The only real advantage was having a washer and dryer in the room. (I don't cook, so the kitchen was never used.)

On the other hand, studios are great for solos. The BW and BC studios have sofas and feel like a little apartment. And although OKW studios have the 2 queen beds, they are really quite cozy. ::yes::

I prefer my little studio to the 1-bedroom. :earsgirl: Just a matter of personal preference.

arminnie, I agree-when staying solo, studios are perfect. I love to sit on the couch in the morning with my feet up, drinking my morning coffee, watching the "Zip-a-dee-doo-da-tip-for-the-day" over and over again. But I agree, since OKW doesn't have a couch in the studios, that's one reason I don't like it for solo trips (besides I love BCV). However, to answer your question, I know someone who's renting points to stay in a BWV 1 BR solo, I think (Oh, Claudia...)
But for me, studios are just that-"perfect"!

On my last solo trip to BCV, I stayed in a one bedroom for five nights and have become spoiled! Usually I stay in a studio, but I wanted to have a full kitchen and the washer and dryer. Yes, it was a lot of points and if I had reserved a studio I could have squeezed in another trip before the end of the year, but overall it was worth it.

I will be returning to studios in the future though since my little one is going to college next year and I'll be able to go to WDW more often!

I have never stayed in a 1 br solo and most likely never will. For me a studio is perfect, it is just the right size. Having the sofa/lr area, the kitchenette and my balcony makes it perfect and my own apt at WDW! A 1 br when I am solo is a big waste of pts and space and I would MUCH rather get 2 trips from the same number of pts.
I love using the hot tub at the quiet pools better than the room jacuzzi and using the laundry room for the w&d does not bother me at all since I do at the most 2 loads in a 2 week trip and those I do while I am sitting in the sun at the main pool!
Also I have never used a DVC kitchen for anything more than making coffee, a fast bagel, reheating leftovers and keeping beverages and snacks chilled, so for me a full kitchen no matter how many people are with me or what size villa I am in is a non issue.

I would have to have a ridiculous number of points to use or lose OR its a case of it being just one night alone to have this happen. It takes a second person to get me to start using the stove (I'm a brilliant microwave chef!) and...if I'm alone I'd rather be in the hottub with strangers than in my room jacuzzi by myself (okay that sounds kind of weird...). The main loss is the washer/dryer. Also I love the feeling of a fabulous hotel room (studio) versus a nice condo (1 bedroom).

Studios are perfect for the solo traveler, and they save points. If you have to do laundry (I had to wash some pants at OKW last month... somewhere they got big black streaks on them) you can do it for free in the laundry rooms (soap is extra).

My next solo trip in a 1-bedroom is coming up at the end of the month. It's a big OKW 1-bedroom to boot! ::yes::

I have stayed solo many times in a 1-bedroom OKW unit. On one trip I stayed there for two weeks. Mega points for sure but it was a treat to myself.

I've stayed in studios also (OKW, BW, VWL, HH and Vero) but really prefer the 1-bedroom units. Sure they are very large for one person but it makes me feel at home. I love to cook, even on vacation, so I use the kitchen. The whirlpool is heavenly as is the big porch to relax on. Having a laundry room right there is terrific. It sure beats dragging the laundry bag to some facility way down the hall or worse.

My points were bought for my pleasure. Since I can't often go for extended stays or more than twice a year I have plenty of points to do one (1 week) studio stay plus one (1 week) 1-bedroom stay per year or one longer 1-bedroom stay. I do stretch the points a bit with hotel stays on the weekends.

I used to feel funny reserving a 1-bedroom unit for myself but no longer have a problem with it.

Well.......YES ! I am renting points for that wonderful bedroom. I want to be able to go right from that hot tub into bed for a really restfull sleep. Yes it is a splurge.......
but I'm worth it ! This is the first time that I'm doing this, and if I don't actually use the washer/dryer or hot tub, I won't do it again. I am also doing this because I am celebrating turning 50.

Simba's Mom......yeah, you knew I would reply ! I really got a chuckle at your post. LOL !

I did it once - I felt strange - although the bigger patio (OKW) is a good point.

not having the washer/dryer does not bother me - because all the laundry rooms at OKW are in the swimming pool area - so go swimming while you are doing your wash - not generated a problem.

Whirlpool tub - yes I do miss it - but as doubletrouble_VB says you have acess to the one(s) in the pool area.

Now I also like the set up at the other DVC (VWL, BCV, BWV) for solo trips - that is a nicer layout for solo's than OKW - but I really like the atmosphere (not to mention the lower points) at OKW.

Of course the standard view at BWV is not that bad on points - and I do love to be able to walk to Epcot/Studios.

I'll be alone in a one bedroom next month- but only because I bought a resale and need to use up points. I'm moving to a studio on the weekend, though!
