Does anyone square-foot garden?

I just learned of this method of gardening and think it might be a perfect way to start a vegetable garden with my kids this year. Does anyone use this method? How has it worked for you?

I did it once a while ago. Now I use a modified method with paving stones between sections of a small garden. I think it would work well for kids.

We have a Square Foot Garden in our front yard. It's been seven years since we planted any vegetables in it, though. Although this method of gardening is low maintenance, I didn't water my plants often enough. And I couldn't get anyone else in the family interested in helping me take care of the garden either. I sure do miss those cherry tomatoes. We planted bulb in the garden and tore down the tomato trellis.

I used to love to watch Mel Bartholomew on PBS talking about Square Foot Gardening on Saturday mornings. Thanks to your thread, I just found the official website:

I sent Mel Bartholomew an email yesterday in regards to getting Square Foot Gardening shows on either DVD or even possibly back on PBS. He sent me a nice reply today. I was thrilled to hear from him. He has asked my input on a couple of ideas that he put forth and acknowledged my idea about releasing all 75 episodes of the original series on DVD. You could have knocked me over with a feather when I received that email. Mel is one of my geek heros and getting an email from him was the highlight of my day.

I might even resurrect my square foot garden!!!
