We are strongly considering investing in DVC and have been since our last trip. We are wondering if anyone has bought into DVC with the specific intent to share your membership (so to speak) with your family. Here's what my husband is thinking we can do. Buy in with enough points that we can book a two bedroom with the idea in mind that then if my sisters family wants to go some years they can accompany us and perhaps pay for our park tickets to defray the costs we pay for the room. Does that make sense?? Has anyone else done this?? and if so were there any drawbacks. I wouldn't count on them going every year with us (heck I'm not sure if we would go every year...maybe every other and bank some points). What are your thoughts??

We've brought my inlaws every year since we bought in to DVC. Before that, we came to WDW with them and had separate rooms at CBR, DL or PO. It's really nice to be sharing a home with them instead of having to worry about whether we will get rooms near each other at another resort.

We have brought guests along several times..all family members. It was a lot of fun to be able to stay in a villa with a common living/dining/kitchen area and all of us have our own bedrooms..great way to spend some relaxing time together and still have your privacy!

So far, we've never considered asking our guests for any type of payment etc. However, they do usually treat us to a nice meal one evening.

There's nothing wrong with your plan if it works for you and your family!

Good luck with your decision!

Have a wonderful day!

If you intend to share, why not ask your sister if this would be something of interest to her. Otherwise, buy the number of points your family would most likely use and no big extra chunk for "possible" shares.

Having someone buy park passes for you also won't offset all your costs of the mortgage and fees of DVC.

We have brought family and friends along for all but 2 of our DVC trips. We have never asked for any kind of compensation though. Some have treated us to a nice dinner out, and some have cooked a nice dinner in for us. It is just so much fun to share the fun, that we continue to invite guests. :) ºoº

I've taken friends and family and not asked them for anything to offset the accommodations. I originally purchased DVC thinking that it would primarily be my family enjoying it with me but sibling strains have eliminated that possibility. The last three years, friends have enjoyed the experience that otherwise, they would never have been able to afford and I've gotten to travel with people who really have, in many ways, "adopted" me.

We haven't told many about our purchase into DVC. We have an inground pool at home and you would not believe how many neighbors want to be "friends" during swim season. We do not want folks to start hinting about Florida trips.

We have brought both family and friends on a few visits since we joined in 1994. Actually our friends join when they came down with us since they enjoyed it.
You did not mention which resort you were interested in. Did you realize that OKW and Boardwalk are sold out resorts that can be only purchased through resale. If you are interested in the name of a resale broker I can share that with you since we have purchased both through disney and resale.

Good luck with your decision.

Since joining 12/99 we've taken three trips and we've brought fanily or friends along on each trip. The best was last December for my folks 50th wedding aniversary. We had a 2BR at BWV overlooking the Boardwalk.

Since we bought our first points back in 1992 at OKW, we have shared our room with our children (now grown and still coming along), and in-laws, and friends except for 3 trips. The more the merrier, usually! The guest usually pitch in with the groceries and a nice dinner out, but I never ask for anything.

Whenever they call me a dreamer, I think of Walt Disney and smile:)

We bought into DVC with my parents, my brother and my sister (4 of us). We are each listed on the deed (important if you want to make your own reservations and receive mailings), and my dad is the main contact. We bought 220 points, so we each get 55 per year, enough to do 5 nights in a studio each year or save to do other things. We have all done different things - my family tends to go every year just for the studio, but this year we pooled points and all stayed in a grand villa - great fun! This has worked very well for us, and since I could not have afforded the minimum 150 points on my own, it has been a great solution

My in-laws are one of the very first DVC members at OKW... they've been "sharing" their membership with us from the beginning. It's been a great deal for us!

Last year, when we finally had some $$$ available, we became members too. Now we still take vacations together, sometimes using their points, sometimes using our points. It's great because we can stay together in a 2 BR and save points compared with getting 2 1 BR units. That means more vacations for everyone!

A few times before I brought into DVC I went to Disney World alone - had a wonderful time. The first trip to DVC I went alone. SInce then friends and family (especially family) have gone. I even let my brother and his family go at least once a year without me. (he has kids - they have grown-up going to WDW). Now thought since he has to paid for the tickets (used to be free) their trips are down, so that means I can bring my friends more often.

We bought DVC in early 1993 and enjoyed it so much that we bought 4 more add-on's. We did it so we could take our family members with us and usually get 2 BR or Grand Villa to stay in for the week. It is great to share and my brother-in-law gets the rental car for the week and takes us out to eat at least 2 times during the week. We enjoy their company and it makes for the best family vacation.

We are going to be sharing the 3 bedroom Grand Villa at BWV in 2 weeks. Our relatives are DVC members and after they booked this trip we also decided to join last Dec. We plan taking family members down often.

but we wish we'd have bought more points to be able to do it more often.

There's so much that we share, that it's time we're aware,It's a small world after all!

My parents feel like members because they have gone on most of our HH trips and also have gone to OKW.

They always insist on treating us to meals, park passes, or cash toward the costs. We encourage them not to but they do anyway. They especially love HH and it is a great time to see them each year since they are in MA and we are in NC.
