Does Anyone See Disney On Broadway?

The Lion King on Broadway was brilliant.
They've just had the show on here in melbourne for a few months.
But nothing would beat seeing it on Broadway!

Haven't gone in years (got too expensive for one thing), but saw Beauty & the Beast and the Lion King on Broadway each several times - both AWESOME!!

I've seen Beauty, Mary Poppins, Aladdin, and 101 Dalmatians (traveling show). They were all fantastic. Aladdin was one of the best shows I've ever seen.

I live in NY and broadway is the biggest thing in my life, besides disney. ANY disney show on broadway is amazing. Currently, Aladdin is the biggest spectacle I have ever seen. If you have a chance to see you must. The highlight for me, is the actor who provided the voice of Jafar in the movie, Jonathan Freeman, plays Jafar live on stage. It is the coolest thing ever!

Saw Aladdin and it was rather fun. James Monroe Iglehart, who plays the Genie, is phenomenal - and does it without reminding you of Robin Williams.

Other than that saw Aida which was ok, not great

We saw James Monroe Iglehart perform at D23. OMgosh, what a stage presence he has. Watching him, Josh Strickland (Tarzan), & Ashley Brown (Mary Poppins) perform was really a highlight for me.

not sure if you have seen this already, but a few months ago JMI led the cast of Aladdin against the cast of the Lion King in a sing off when they were both stuck in an airport (bonus points to him for having a CM Punk shirt on)

Been to many of them. Some are rough (Tarzan and Little Mermaid, amazing songs awful direction and productions) some are just okay for Broadway (Aladdin and Mary Poppins although JMI is amazing in Aladdin and carries the show) and some are timeless (Newsies and Lion King). Of course that is just personal opinion of someone who sees almost everything on Broadway not just Disney. Some will rank some shows higher than others or even hate a show some people adore.

In the Broadway community... The Disney Shows get a bad wrap. Many critics won't come out and say 'Disney' but they literally call the genre of Family Musicals 'Theme Park'

Some folks in the broadway community appreciate Disney paying equity actors, but some will point to Disney as the reason ticket prices have gone through the roof.

In 1994 when Beauty and the Beast opened - it made headlines because orchestra seats broke box office records being sold for over $30 a ticket. Now just two decades later the average ticket to Lion King on Broadway is $143... AVERAGE ticket price. That does not include the premium tickets that run between $300-$400

So in many ways... Disney on Broadway has out-priced the average Disney World tourist because they can have a whole day in the park for $105 or less... but the average NYC international tourist will pony up the funds no question asked.

I did get to do Lion King (very last row of the theatre) during the recession in NYC back in 2008. I also saw The Little Mermaid... which was less a good play, but more so a vehicle for fantastic broadway actors. Mary Poppins on Broadway was a beautiful execution of stage craft.

I've only seen Beauty and the Beast on tour. WARNING - The current tour is being produced by NETworks - NOT Disney. They have totally cheapened out the production to sell $60-$80 tickets to little girls in Belle Dresses. They totally took all the Disney magic out... I think Disney may be eyeing a Broadway revival in a few years, but in the meantime... Take your little ones to the show in Hollywood Stuidos.

That's awesome - thanx for sharing, and putting a smile on my face! :)

I got to see Beauty and the Beast of Broadway and loved it. It was on a trip with marching band and we all looked at our band director and wanted to do the stein dance for our field show the next year (of course most of us that were saying that were seniors and wouldn't be able to do it), but he said no...

I haven't had a chance to see any others, but I have seen Cats and Phantom. I would rank them as Cats, Beauty and the Beast, and then finally Phantom.

I've seen Beauty and the Beast, Lion King and Mary Poppins. We go to a lot of B'Way shows, but don't make the Disney shows a priority. I thought Beauty and Lion King were excellent. I didn't care for Mary Poppins at all. In fact, I would place it in my bottom three all time for Broadway shows with Addams Family and Showboat* (*Revival. I'm not nearly old enough to have see the original!)

We live in NYC and have seen Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, Mary Poppins, even both of the short-lived Tarzan and Little Mermaid, and Aladdin. We always intended to see Newsies but never made it.

FWIW, Newsies is phenomenal. I have not seen any other Disney-specific shows, but run to this show when you get a chance :)

I have the Newsies soundtrack on CD, and although I've never seen the show, I can tell you the soundtrack is awesome! :)

Newsies closed on Broadway earlier this year.

I've seen touring productions of Beauty and the Beast (late 90s at The Pantages), The Lion King (twice at The Pantages in the late 90s/early 2000s), and I saw Marry Poppins when it came through LA 2/3 summers ago. I want to see Newsies, I love the music from that movie/show.
