Does anyone run the PHM without the company of their family?

I'm IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :woohoo:

And I have to say, I'm a little scared. :scared: But it's a good scared. :goodvibes

I talked to DH about it over lunch today, and I'm pretty sure he already had a very good idea of what I was going to ask. (The sly smirk on his face gave it away.) ;) He actually said he wanted the family to go to be there to support me :grouphug: - but agreed that with me needing good rest the day/night before and most likely much of Sunday, that maybe it would be better if I went by myself. But he told me that I absolutely should do it.

So I am!!!! :)

Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who encouraged me. I cannot tell you how incredibly excited I am. Yesterday, I bought new runners and started Galloway's conditioning program - plenty of time for that and then the half marathon training program before the big day. The kids and I, along with my niece and a few friends, have signed up for the local Color Run 5k in October - can't wait! I'd love to run a 10k, too, but can't find anything local that would give me a time before the cutoff. (Race opportunities start to get pretty thin after October because of the weather.)

K... back to work. But holy COW I can't believe I'm doing this!! princess:

This is totally me too. :) it's a personal journey and victory for me just days before my 40th birthday. I took the plunge and registered two days after it opened! I will join the chant: DO IT! DO IT! :)

I'm guessing your birthday is 2/28. Lol. So is mine! This is my bday present every year.

Congratulations! You'll have a blast.

I have never done the princess solo (I'm a guy and think it might be a bit wierd) but I did do the Wine & Dine by myself. While I was there I met a few other runners and have kept in touch with them via social media even now. We are currently planning meet ups during the Disnyland race next month (also a solo trip).

Once my wife saw how much fun I had I actually convinced her to run the W&D with me this year. I say all of this to let you know that once you do it you'll get hooked and racing solo will be no big deal.

Hahaha, mine is 2/27

This was an early birthday present to myself, too! Only mine (my 42nd) is a week from today. princess:

Love this! I'm looking forward to meeting other runners, too. I'd love to bring DH into the fun, but he just doesn't enjoy running the way I do. But I'm thrilled to have his support. :goodvibes

Yay!!! I'm so glad you made the leap. I just turned 42 as well. If someone had told me 5 years ago that I would be doing this I would have called them crazy. I'm actually pretty proud of myself. Good luck with your training! I am really happy for you :yay:

Yes! How'd did you know?! Lol :)

I gotta say that this thread is awesome! I love that there are a bunch of us 40-ish women doing this for themselves! Yay! :)

Me too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now... how about that meet-up? I'd love to grab dinner on the 21st (will likely be going to bed very early on the 22nd!). Or breakfast or lunch on the 22nd would work, too. Tons of time to plan, I know. Just so excited!! :)

Don't forget us 40-ish men also doing it for ourselves;)

Duly noted! :)

I do have to ask though, what made you decide to run the PHM as opposed to another Disney race? I think its pretty cool that there are men brave enough to run with all of us women! ;)

And now I'm even MORE excited! One of my best and oldest friends has decided to join me. We rarely get to see each other anymore - so looking forward to sharing this with her. :)

Please forgive me for the delay in replying... CONGRATULATIONS! :cheer2: I'm SO glad to see this update. I assumed you signed up through your reply in the thread I started but to come back and officially see this is so exciting! I'm very happy for you and wish you the best. I can't wait to see where we are in days, weeks, and months. You can do it! You have a solid plan and now, it's time to enjoy the ride.

I will be doing the Color Run 5k in Orlando in September so we're on similar training paths. Woohoo!

Thank you! And woohoo is right - I'm so excited. :) And what's more - I think I may have recruited two more princesses tonight! I'm so glad I made the leap.

And remember what you were saying about how I'd feel if the race filled up and I missed out? Just saw the note about it being 94% full now and realized how disappointed I would have been had I not gone for it. You were totally right!

Off to bed now - have to be fresh for my 5:30am run! ;)

The peace of mind knowing there's a princess spot just for you is priceless! I can't believe the jump yesterday...from 87% to 94% capacity. Wow!

Hope you had a great run! My early morning run was cancelled as Jen has a stomach bug but I will be going solo some time today to make up for it. It looks to be a beautiful day!

Does anyone else go by themselves?
Absolutely! I love my family, but when I'm racing, I'm in race mode, not have fun with the family mode. I want lots of alone time, the ability to get up and dressed at a ridiculous hour without worrying about waking anyone, and the knowledge that I can skip the parks entirely in favor of relaxation after the race. I'm meeting a friend for TOT, but am otherwise solo for TOT, WDW 1/2 and the GSC. :thumbsup2

Yay, congrats on pushing the button! You can do it :cheer2:

The 94% scared me this morning when a friend who's doing the race msgd me to let me know.

So i panicked and booked my place!

I'll be doing it alone, and coming from Ireland for it! People will think Im mad but I dont care.

Its someth to motivate and train for and achieve!!

Yeah! Don't panic. I have always done Run Disney races solo (I have a very non-Disney DH) You have plenty of time to train. And they'll be lots of WISH-ers at the race to get to know.

Maura

(and might I add, this particular Irish-American found Ireland a lovely place to visit in 2007 and is looking to go back)

I saw you signed up (YAY!) and just wanted to share that I'm going solo also - as in no family, no girlfriends. It's my first Disney race, but has been on my wish list forever! I think we'll be in good company - there's lots of solo people that go, and there's 20k best friends to be just waiting to meet us :)
